I think it is time to start this thread.
We've already had The Peony Shop open.

For you folks in Canada, it appears that Halifax Perennials is offering the Simmons NZ woody peonies. This is very exciting! This was a post about it on Facebook. The roots will arrive in the Spring, usually April/May.

https://www.facebook.com/10499...

Now, I have never done business with Halifax Perennials, but hopefully someone here has and will speak up.

Here is my Southern Beauty NZ woody from Simmons blooming in my garden in April.

I saw that Halifax post as well, interesting! It sounded to me that they were doing a big import from Simmons and trying to get pre-orders, including the price of shipping in with the plant. Did you take a look at their prices? Had to be all inclusive...

Did you order much from PS, LG? I ordered Danse du Feu, Odile and Pink Diamond as well as a few older Itohs since they were so inexpensive. Those of you who grow in warm climates—Pink Diamond is marketed as a late lactiflora double that doesn't need winter chill. Hopefully that will be accurate, very interested in seeing how late it actually blooms! Wouldn't that be an interesting trait to try to breed in to future seedlings for those of us who garden in warmer zones? I'm including myself in that group since the majority of my garden is in zone 8a now even though I'm here in zone 4b for hopefully my last winter with tons of snow.....

Thanks LG for this thread, more enabling, haha. I checked their website and rate tree peonies are not available until Jan/Feb.

Now keep in mind that Halifax Perennials may not ship into the USA, because they have to get a Phyto certificate, and those add a lot of cost.

And the prices are in Canadian dollars I'm sure on the listing.

I'm on my iPad, not sure I can do that easily for this technology challenged person, lol.
Down to 31 now. I got the feeling they will empty their inventory soon. Very good news.

The Europeans pronounce Piet...as of it were no big deal—isn't to them at all! The American growers I talked to about that one called it PVW

I can pronounce it but cannot keep in my memory for long time, I cannot remember abbreviations either (even worse). Hilarious!

What is the general order of store opening for the various peony retailers? I think I read Hidden Springs and Solaris open Jan 1 and Warmerdam on Feb 1. Anyone know of any others?

It varies. Adelman's will open on Jan 1 for sure but others like Fina can open later. Swenson's will open probably in mid-January, Hollingsworth later, Gold City even later, but as I said it can vary.

A & D is hard to figure out when they open. They don't send an email out like all the others do.

Oh My Peonies will open Jan. 1 too.

Countryside Gardens is another one that varies their opening.

Thanks, Anya and Mieko. Here's a few I'm hoping to order this coming year (the first three for long lasting red foliage before turning green; the last for it's very sweet fragrance) Smiling

Hi Laurie,

I hope you find a source in the USA for Anika. Check Solaris or Brooks. You might want to send them an email. Warmerdam is your source for it overseas.

The others you should be able to find.

White Cap is a must for the fragrance! I can smell mine from five feet away!! I haven't ever cut them to bring into the house, but I think I will this coming Spring. Lovey dubby

I'm looking forward to ordering in 2021, I now can get more tree peonies, no more herbaceous until next year.

I guess what I just heard.....you may know about comfort animals...this horticultural professor talks about COMFORT PLANTS!!!! Rolling on the floor laughing It is fun and now I can tell my husband that this peony needs another peony comfort plant! Laughing so hard...off to text my husband...he'll probably fall off his chair laughing! Right before he reminds me that even comfort plants need planting!

That's pretty funny, Annie! One thing I've learned in life is that most people don't 'get' obsessive gardeners. My brother admired one of my Morning Lilac itoh photos. He asked me how much it cost. When I told him $65 he went off!! Lol. I ignored him.

I sure hope he doesn't ask about Pastelegance! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
