Do you folks like have the starting bid being higher. Most swaps start with a lot lower number?

Shorter swaps need higher starting ticket numbers than longer swaps. It looks like 8 was a good pick for this one. There's no way to get it perfect every time. I was in one swap where Dave helped the swap host up the ticket amount part way through, because she had under estimated due to a lot of seed offers being added just before the swap. Starting with too many tickets cannot be remedied, however.

It seems just right to me. Enough to get some great picks and look forward to the next round. Great to feed the seed collecting passions.

Agree, I think 8 was a perfect number for this size swap. How many total listings were there this time?

I agree This was my first NGA swap and I think it was perfect also. If I was a racehorse I'd be chafing at the bit to let me go, I need more tickets for more seeds.(if we had started out with 3 tickets.)
I was able to go back through the listings last night, eliminate the ones that were zeroed out and put together another nice list.

I agree it was nice to start with 8 tickets. I think that you have to guage the number of seeds listed with the number of really common seeds that might have no interest, along with the number of participants and the days the swap runs...and take into account the tickets people are awarded when they "sell" their seeds to a dibber...you dont want to run out of offerings before the swap ends :D

I think this worked out really well. Had you started with 3 tickets, and it was a 4 day swap, it would have been kind of disappointing IMHO

I had about 13 tickets accrued after last night and I went through my list again today and did some bidding. I think I am pretty much done. I am managing to stay = with making up my packets to go out. I still have a lot to do so let me get back to it!

Just a suggestion to new swappers. It's not a great idea (yes, my opinion, so some may not agree) to wait til your seeds are all dibbed to pack them up. Often the people who have to do this get a bit overwhelmed and in the past, that has lead to late mailings which holds up the swap. I also find that if I prep all my packets, and file them A-z, it's alot easier to pack, and they are all in one place which leads to alot less issues if I cant find something someone bid on (which has actually happened even with this system on rare occassion). Am I OCD? Dont think so, but I do like to be prepared :D

I do the same as Val normally. I make alphabetic bags for seeds as I enter them. I also file them the way that the swap system lists them. By that, I mean like geum, the system lists some as avens so those get filed under A.

I also pull the seeds and put them in the envelopes of each player that has already been prepared daily. It just makes it easier for me

I do the same thing Val, I don't list anything until it is packaged and labeled. I also keep them organized a-z as they are listed in the swap so I can find them without going through them 20 time. If I don't do it that way I worry I won't be able to find something that I had listed. Or thought I had something that is long gone.
We are supposed to get 12" of snow tonight so it will be a great time to grab a cup of coffee and package up everything.
