and 3 of from bj iris today. i have 'centerline', thank you to jan. but there's only 1 rhizome left, and i enjoyed it so much when it bloomed, i wanted to ensure that it stayed around so it's a second, for insurance.

the first rhizome of 'pinkity' was sooooo, little it did not survive. it languished for years, and with the drought situation we've had in the previous years, 'p' just gave up and dried. the last straw was the replacement of our fences; workmen trod on my iris beds without thought or care.

i'm happy to grow them again, (fingers-crossed) in pots for the first few months…at least until february. hopefully they'll be established and i can transfer them to their place in the garden.

i got a box today from mariposa iris. i was very surprised and had not expecting my order this year. but, i am happily soaking them in a shallow dish of water overnight.
http://mariposairis.com/maripo...
http://mariposairis.com/maripo...
which was what i ordered.

i received a generous gift from doug of: http://mariposairis.com/maripo... thank you.

i was definitely not going to order any irises this year, but bought 2 replacements, 1 insurance, 4 new (2 @same variety) + a 2 rhizome bonus from one vendor, 2-(insurance) kind offers, and a bonus surprise from a generous nga-er for postage. a whopping total for not ordering this year of 12 rhizomes of which i have no room to house at the moment. ( except in a pot ghetto.) i will have to cull 12 from the garden!

there have been a few that have gone by attrition due to the drought, and some neglect. but, it will still be a difficult decision which ones will get the boot.

i will really have to go over my records carefully to scrutinize the under preforming and under whelming irises to cull. Sighing!

thank you, leslie. 'noyb' caught my eye, i thought it might be a color echo for 'sorbet swirl', or help transition color that's similar to 'baby duck' somewhere in my garden. however, 'bd' has not bloomed for me, and since placing 'ss' in the ground, it's been snail riddled (probably because it blooms so early and i'm not thinking of sprinkling sluggo out amongst the irises. but i am going to be more vigilant next february! (it's usually raining that time of the yr.)

I hope the new PINKITY thrives, too.

Just beware - there is an imposter out there. The REAL PINKITY has PBF. It's slight, but it's discernable. (This was verified for me by the hybridizer's daughter. She said that her father didn't register it with the AIS as having PBF because he felt it was too little.)
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

My new MTB has pbf in the spring. I noted it, but did not appear on the registration card. So I am glad that you were told about it.

Yay! I am kicking my self for my "self control" (dubious) that prevented me from making an order from there.

thank you, elsa and lyn. i am looking forward to any blooming next year. i've had 'baby duck' for a while (4 yr.) and am still waiting to see a flower.

so, i am hopeful these 3 will not take as long to see a bloom.

Having denied myself any orders for a year or so, today I received a big box - a combined order from Robert Piatek and Kat Zalewska (both in Poland). It was a bit tricky because post Brexit, but it arrived OK, yay. 109 rhizomes, some of which I have already in France but can no longer easily transport to England thanks to the dreadful Brexit.
I now need to find space for them all - and they've just announced a hosepipe ban. But we'll manage!

Mika ~ That's great you have so many new ones of which to anticipate blooming next year. (I'm sorry about Brexit, too!) Now we can't order seeds from the UK any more! Sad Chiltern's, T&M...etc I used to get seeds every year, well, at least the beautiful catalogs! Hilarious!

Mika, You are so lucky to have gotten iris from Piatek. His hybrids are so gorgeous - it is really a pity we can't get them in the USA.
