Whew! Found you guys! Plant question about rodney asters that I got at the swap a few years ago. Will it hurt them if I whack them back a foot or so? They're about four feet tall and block the view of my garden from my patio door. Is there anything I can do to get them to bloom before they're good 'n ready in a month or so?

Crista~
I wacked mine to about 4" from the soil n a container and they came back better than ever. Blooming not so sure at this late date. I love the blooms...

Does the heat have anything to do with what might be the optimum time to whack? We don't whack roses in summer so as to not stimulate growth that can stress the plant. Let the plant rest then whack in Fall when they are more likely to shoot up healthy growth. But, if it's a matter of being unsightly that's different story.

Wow ! Christa! Great news! I've been retired for 4 months. It's different I'll tell ya! I'm having a bit of a hard time structuring productivity. Subbing will be a good strategy to start with. You'll have lots of free time. Congratulations!
