Welcome!

What types of cp's are you growing? Show us! :)

I have no pictures yet and NGA won't ever let me upload pictures. I'm starting VFT's this week and on the hunt for a good cultivator for drosera and pitcher plants. I see these becoming a new problem for me. Smiling

Hi Jaime, I see you have a lovely picture for your avatar photo (I would love to know the name of that beautiful tree!) so you should be able to upload pictures to your posts as well. If you ever have trouble uploading photos to any forum/post, just give a shout out and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Lin- I was never able to find a name for it. It was at our old house before we sold it but it made such a nice pic I kept it. It used to produce really pretty pink seeds that looked like the little helicopter seeds maples drop. Smiling
I got that to upload shortly after I joined but I think it might be because I do it all from my phone. Smiling

Oh! So glad we now have a forum for CP's!

I have Pinguiculas, Nepenthes and Sarracenias. I have been posting them on other threads but will post it here now too!
Pinguiculas -fungus gnats love Pings so I really like that it thrives so easily indoors.
Pinguicula gigantea - acquired this June from an auction at the Bay Area Carnivore Shore.
So far it is the biggest of my Pings and currently in bloom:

Compared in size with my other Pings

It is in bloom, the blooms seems to go a bit lighter as it gets older:

This is how its blooms look like last Feb 2016

This is my oldest Pinguicula - I messed up the tag on this one, but so far it has been with me for the past 3 years, had to divide it:
Photo Jan 2015
Thumb of 2016-06-13/tarev/8eb65f
Then I was away in Dec 2015, when I came back had to really consider dividing and making it look nicer, lots of dried out leaves:

After repot

And my nepenthes, all being grown indoors by our west facing window by the sink. Typically I read it does not need to stand in water, but in my very dry area, it seems to prefer to be in standing water:
Nepenthes densiflora (spathulata x spectabile)

Nepenthes petiolata x veitchii
Thumb of 2016-06-13/tarev/4f7614 Thumb of 2016-06-13/tarev/e8adc1

Nepenthes max x vent (sorry I still have to get clear on its name, that's how the name was on a masking tape on its container), but it is a male one, that much I know, I also won this at the recent carnivore show auction

Sarracenias - all growing outdoors year round
Sarracenia psittacina - this one was really nice the first year but it is struggling right now, I guess our really poor humidity here is not to its liking:

Sarracenia purpurea

It is currently in bloom, these were the photos of its bud/bloom
Thumb of 2016-06-13/tarev/223506

Sarracenia hybrid maybe Judith Hindle - poor carnivore, it has been rather windy, so one of the pitchers is in a bent position

Humidity is an issue for my carnivores, but I am thankful Nepenthes and Pinguiculas can do well indoors. They will get fried outdoors here. My Sarracenias stays outdoors but has to be in standing water. I like it in winter the Sarracenias go dormant, and winter is rainy season so I can collect rainwater.

Sometimes Pinguiculas are not easy to find, but here is another seller's website I remember they were also selling at one of the orchid shows: http://www.worldsrareplants.co... they don't carry Pings but they have other carnivores. Good to use as price comparison as well.

Howdy! I just bought a bunch of CP's and am excited to see this forum. I liked the pics and seeing the different containers people have them in. Do they need to be in rain or distilled water? The gal selling them said no but everything I've read says yes. Here's my collection:

I put them all together in a bird bath, but have had to repot several of them into 6" pots so now they don't all fit. We have a small water feature/pond I might try to put them in.

Lovely Sarracenias Patty! I use distilled water since we do not have rainwater most of the time. Rainwater is best actually. Some carnivores may tolerate tap water, but it has chlorine and salts that will be bad for most carnivores. So to be on the safe side, I just use distilled water. If one has reverse osmosis water, that is good too.

It is fun watching Nepenthes grow its new leaves, I was curious how it makes those pitchers:

This is from my Nepenthes densiflora:

Ok here we go....

All vfts are normal ones, haven't got any other ones THIS year, just too busy in life itself haha...

sundews - capensis, intermedia, and unknown hybrid.
Pingucuila - Primuflora, pirouette, "Bugbane" which is Moranensis x gigantae.
Sarracenia - purpurea, flava, parrot, Judith hindel, as well as 3 hybrid no names

The two biggest butterworts, are the same plant...
I divided about a month after I got them via mail. Which was,.... I wanna say last fall...
after that, I did pullings from BOTH mother plants while they were succulent or "dormant"
which is wiser considering those leaves are smaller, thicker, and designed specifically to get through its unfavorable period. Because I kept them inside, they decided when to go dormant.

ANYWWWAYS, I did the pullings, I did 13 or so pulings.

After they started growing strikes, which are the knubs that will become a plant, I observed each leaf, only to find out that ALL knubs on each leaf, became plants THEMSELVES, I thought 1 leaf pulling equals ONE genetically identical plant....

nope, I ended up with 32 plants.

speechless haha
