You know what's a shame, I have to do something about adding humidity for my butterworts outside...

Sundew are just fine, pitchers and vfts don't really apply....... but dam. There not catching a thing!

Maybe a morsel of a gnat or TWO on great days.

so do I sort of make my humidity domes over them?

or plastic wrap a roof for them?

or have them all (30 something....) sit on rocks in an ocean haha

Confused Michigan doesn't have enough humidity? You have all those Great BIG Lakes? So what does humidity and catching bugs have to do with one another? I'm about to have another one of Confused these.

The potting medium should be providing enough humidity (they grow in bogs!) and bugs are an added attraction. They don't NEED to catch bugs. That is an added bonus. You can actually kill your plants by force feeding them bugs (over fertilizing). They are really easy plants to grow. Let your plants do their own thing!

I live in the desert - humidity often drops to 0 (really - ZERO). My plants are fine.

Well come to find out my VFT seeds aren't what they say they are thanks to some helpful people on FTC. Sad On the upside I have some D. Capensis red and N. Ventricosa seed on the way. That makes it a little better. Smiling

@daisyl, this has become a new hobby/addiction. Haha. I've recently moved to Las Vegas. Do you keep yours outdoors?

It is active leaf forming for my three Nepenthes: Fun to see the new leaves form, like soldiers on attention mode, before it gradually grows downward as the pitcher forms.
Nepenthes max x vent
The older pitchers are slowly dying out, but new ones are forming, so I am reassured, it is just adjusting here. Just got to tolerate the pitchers as it dries out. The main leaf is still photosyntesizing anyways, so will just wait for that pitcher to totally dry out before I remove it.

Seeing the new growth is reassuring, soon a new pitcher at the tip will form:

Nepenthes petiolata x veitchii; I also found a nice glass container, so it is elevated nicely as with my Nepenthes densiflora Smiling

Nepenthes densiflora - leaf formation on that attention mode. towards the light.

Hi Jaime,

Yes to outside for Sarracenia. No to outside for Nepenthes and Drosera. Except for one Drosera that seems to have escaped to the great outdoors two years ago. Its doing fine making me think I might put a couple more out there.

Daisy, thank you. That is very helpful. By chance, do you know of anywhere in Las Vegas or nevada that carries carnivorous plants?
Thank you.
Jaime.

My favorite carnivorous plant sites are California Carnivores in Sebastopol, CA:

https://www.californiacarnivor...

And Cascade Carnivores (in Oregon I think):

http://www.cascadecarnivores.c...

They aren't usually considered desert plants so you and I might be the only crazy people in the state growing carnivorous plants. Smiling

Haha. That's very likely. Don't get me wrong, the native plants are neat and I have some cacti and succulents going but these are so much better. Big Grin
I've read good reviews about California carnivores. I'll have to check their prices. Smiling

Tarev, apparently insects are trapped by the slippery leaves and slide down to their watery deaths between the outside leaves.
