Have questions about the seeds someone else is offering? Here is the place to discuss it! Or maybe you just wanted to comment on or post example pictures of some seeds that have been listed? You can do that here, too! (Note, if you want to post a picture for one of your own listings, the best place to do that is in the listing so that people see it as they are bidding, but it never hurts to generate some pre-interest here, as well!)

This is not the place to post your seed wishlist.

You can post them here, but the thread that is set up and designed for your wishlists is "Seed Interest wants" set up by Jimard8. That is where people will go to get an idea for which seeds are desired, so anything posted here might get buried, might not be seen by the 'right' person (who has your desired seeds), or might not be seen in a timely manner.

I'm hoping to offer some items on everyone's wishlist. But some depend on how well the plants do at reproducing.

Jimard8 I should have a cross between a Chinese cabbage & a bok choy you may want to try. I'll also offer some wildflowers but they are mostly native to California.

DND, I have seeds for Hibiscus cannibus if you'd like them. The flowers should be cream colored I think. And if I can find them I'll offer seeds from the melon Minnesota Midget that I grew last year. They may have hybridized with Sakata's Sweet though. I'm not sure if they do that or not.

I went on a seed binge this Spring so I should have lots of new stuff to offer. I also bought a lot of new daylilies so different crosses too. I have a few more darker daylilies (reds) and more coral colored ones. Just have to wait & see who flowers & if they are fertile.

I will try to fulfill as many wishes as I can, seeds allowing, lol. I've already started saving seed on some new varieties for this swap and weather bearing and keeping in mind my husband is finally finished weed eating and weed killing my plants, I will have some nice things to add to this year. Really looking forward to it already. Smiling

Karen I'm pretty sure I have lime basil seeds.

This is the part of the swap I hate. Compiling my swap list. Doing it on a phone is no fun!

I agree. I can't do it on my phone or tablet. I have to use my computer.

It just occurred to me to ask...

Now that daylily season has begun in my yard and I have SO MANY daylilies I can pollinate with this year, I can create far more seeds than I can possibly hope to plant myself. Are there any particular color requests?

I can't promise all of the seedlings from any batch of seeds will come out any particular color, of course, but I can cross-pollinate varieties that should have atleast some of a particular color. You can even say whether you prefer daylilies with eyes or no eyes and I will see what I can do. As long as the requests aren't for particular crosses, especially those that I am trying to hybridize with myself, I am happy to try and create some extra seeds this year for members to bid on. I'll put a number of seeds in the swap like I did last year, the difference being that you have the opportunity to make requests! [Note: I CAN try for particular named crosses if you really want and you research what I have--my plant list is more or less up to date--but there are no guarantees because, while I can remember what colors people request, it's much harder to remember particular crosses people want; and some will be difficult since a) not all of them will bloom this year and b) there's no guarantee that the two plants will 'like' each other well enough....some of them are fairly picky about who they 'let' pollinate them. Rolling my eyes. ) I will not take requests for the fancier flowers, though, such as my toothy-edges or my patterns--of which I only have a couple anyway--but I MIGHT throw a couple toothies and/or color-changers in just for fun when the time comes. Who knows. ;)

Prefer pinks and purples?
Relish the reds?
Ogle the oranges?
Pray for peaches?
Wish for whites?
Eyeballing the eyes?
Stirred by stripes?
Let me know!

DND if I'd have to choose a color I'd go with orange. I don't have too many daylilies that color that have scapes so far.

I also intend to offer daylily seeds but I suspect some will be from 2016. I have a lot of new plants & several ones that typically bloom well for me had no scapes. I think last years drought set them back. I also had to redo a bed so very few of those plants will bloom this year. They all look half dead.

So far I only have 2 blooming-a dip and a tet wouldn't you know! Can't wait until I can make some crosses!

Elena thanks for the recommendation--I will try for some extra oranges. Actually, my cross today might yield orange (TET Stella de Oro x Helix), and it's a cross I would probably be happy to donate seeds from for the swap. I was hoping for a bright orange UFO that might have some good re-blooming characteristics with this cross.

Do you freeze pollen? I've used frozen pollen on about 1/3 of my crosses so far. My first blooms of the season were just a few days ago, on June 15th and, wouldn't you know, one was a dip, one was a TET, and both were PINK. Rolling my eyes. I used frozen pollen from last year to pollinate them, but I've been luckier the last couple of days...several TETS have bloomed that would make good crosses for my hybridizing program.

Sorry to hear about the bummer weather conditions you're having. It is cloudy right now here, so I'll send the clouds on their merry way, packing in the water until they get to your place so that they can water your gardens. ;)

Why do you have to redo the bed that you're doing...are they too crammed in together?

DND I probably should have specified not UFO. They just are too gangly for my garden. With very limited space they have to look good next to lots of other plants besides daylilies. The two UFOs I have are barely UFO so tolerable (short scapes & larger more normal petals). The UFOs they breed now would look completely out of place. Sorry!

I had to redo two beds so far (1 daylily/bulbs, the other veggie) because my neighbor let a weed tree grow which I just identified as the invasive Tree of Heaven. More like tree from Hell! It is putting out tons of seeds & also grows by runners. It is impossible to pull the seedlings since they have huge, indestructible roots. I have to dig out the entire bed to get all the roots out. Not fun!

I just tried pulling 2 more seedling from that tree in another veggie bed (dug out) and a small daylily one (will have to redo in Fall). I was told by another neighbor the landlord is going to take the tree down this year. I sure hope so! Did I mention they grow incredibly quickly? If you see a small one, get rid of it quick!

Your rain came. Smiling We are having major thunderstorms right now. Got soaked coming home but at least I don't have to water for a few days! Daylilies should love it!

Ugh, sorry about the tree. What an ironic name or has, though. I don't know if we have that tree around my neighborhood or not, but now I know to try and make sure our next property doesn't have it! Here's to hoping your landlord gets on that tree removal project soon!

The cross I mentioned has just as much chance of producing UFOs as not, although I can't imagine the seedlings being very spidery with Stella D'Oro as a parent. There will certainly be other crosses, though. I may even have some seeds with likely-orange outcomes from last year, too.

how do you guys cross flowers? remove anthars from one flower to collect pollen and then remove the anthars from another plants flower and pollinate the pistil with the pollen from the other? or do you just graft and hope the seeds take traits of both parent plants to create a new pheno? im dumb to most flower knowledge, only started getting into them more this year, in regards to pollinators and for attracting soldier bugs like ladybugs, who will patrol my pepper plants for aphids lol

J Erb - I'm pretty sure one of our regular members has ground cherry seeds, but I can't remember who listed it. I might try to go on the hunt for it later, but at the moment I'm running about 1/2 behind on my schedule of chores for today! Rolling my eyes.

I thought it was you! I tagged you in my first draft, but erased it in the preview because I wasn't sure and didn't have time. Anyhoo...glad I wasn't going crazy. I'm just surprised I remembered correctly. That doesn't happen very often lately (avg of 5 hrs of sleep a night and all...) Hilarious!

I'm hoping I'll have some lily seeds to swap. I've been crossing my Salmon Party w/my Caroline Tensen. It looks like they are producing pods! They'll be white w/maybe some pink, smell heavenly and hopefully taller than SP but shorter than CT. Now as long as the squirrels don't savage them! They've already started on my daylily pods! Angry

I'm looking forward to those! I really want to have lilies in my garden, but I've been a little bit scared off purchasing any from nurseries because I have heard that Lily sickness can run rampant among Nursery lilies, especially the pink variety for some reason. I'm not sure why. But obviously if they are from seed, they shouldn't have that.

It is also very ironic that you mentioned squirrels because I literally just made a post in another thread referencing squirrels. Funny coincidences. Big Grin

What is lily sickness? I've never heard of it. I think I got my lilies from Dutch Gardens. I've had them for several years.

I'm trying to figure out what thread it was that we had that discussion in. It's been a long time, maybe a year? Maybe more? I don't know if I was in the Lily forum or in a generic plant Forum where it was mentioned...? I'll have to try and see if I can find it tomorrow. I will let you know if I do.
