Been there, done that, Joolie. I had this pretty vine with heart shaped leaves growing along a fence. I even collected some seed pods to plant more. Then I got it ID'd... Bindweed. I swear that crap has a vendetta against me.

Hilarious!

Well....for what it's worth, I let some Queen Anne's Lace grow in my yard this year. It makes a pretty decent substitute for baby's breath in both the garden and the vase, and I don't have to buy special seeds for it or anything. But recently, the parents of our new neighbor came over and wondered why I had giant weeds growing in my garden. To me, they're pretty. what is it they say?... A weed is only a plant whose virtues have not been recognized?... Or something like that?

Thank you! That's an outdoor aviary with Arctic Beauty kiwi vines growing on it. We had a tiny yard in our old townhouse and grew the vines and they made a beautiful ceiling. We added netting and brought the birds out and it was such a wonderful space to be in. When we did our yard we tried to replicate it a bit. We built a pergola and put steel mesh all around and planter boxes on three sides. It comes right up to the house, enclosing the front door. So it's a birdy airlock, too! The birds LOVE it. I'm also growing scarlet runner beans and they've invaded the inside, so Niko is constantly trying to eat the flowers. He loves all my plants. With his mouth. I have to be very careful, lol.

I gotta say, the drone has made hubby so happy, which to be honest I really wasn't expecting. He's having all the little boy fun ever, I guess! If your hubby has any friends who are also into drones, they can fly them together and I think that prolongs the fun.

@okieheart Hey, a lot of effort has gone into breeding non-invasive versions of those, so you're not alone in loving the prettiness! But yeah that stuff will really mess you up when it gets out of hand. I'm scared spitless of it and won't even get any of its well mannered relatives for my garden even though they are so so pretty.

@dogsndaylilies I looooove Queen Anne's Lace, but it's another one specifically in the noxious weed list. :'( I've got some kind of really well behaved version of it that's popped up in my raised beds, just the one lone guy, and since he's been on such good behavior I haven't pulled him. The bees LOVE it. So, I got myself seeds of a relative, a blue lace plant, from the outsidepride sale. Guess I'll see how that goes. If you want some too, I'll dish you up some and put em up for trade! Hurray!

@jimard8 omg those tomatoes! Drooling Thumbs up

Hubby and I harvested a bunch of hollyhock and silene seeds tonight! And I bagged up some agastache sunset blooms that were past their prime, along with some heliotrope, dark blue and Maraschino cherry salvia, runner beans, strawberry pink sunflower, dark dark red sunflower, cape fuchsia, some penstemon... So many little white organza bags swaying in the breeze out there, it's ridiculous. Big Grin They work great though, they caught ALL the silene seeds, and they're tiny!

An aviary?....how neat! How many birds do you have?

As for the drone, my husband has a lot of techy friends, atleast a couple of which have a drone, so it will be interesting to see them fly the drone together.

I've got two little parrots, a gold cap conure and a black cap conure (that's the one in my picture here). They're a handful and a half. Hilarious!

Guess I'll have to start playi--er, uh, organizing--my seeds soon and dishing some out into little swap packs soon! Time flies and it'll be swap time before you know it. It still doesn't feel like it ought to be September yet. :/ I'm not ready for fall yet.

I can't wait to try some of these next year!

something Elena and I had been talking about was plants not always being what they seem or should be , Well , here is a Sicilian violet Cauliflower never bloomed a head , but went to seed this spring and now it has runner shoots from old stems and another a foot away from the root ,

I will offer it as perennial fall Cauliflower , might make an interesting addition to the herb garden , as a try ,

old leaves are blue soft cabbage tasting , new leaves are green , and taste green ,

I watched him here and there in the 90's, but I don't know if the episodes were old or current. He made painting look so EASY. I watched as a waterfall, or trees, or clouds would appear right before my eyes like magic.

Happy little accidents, indeed....I have a few in my own garden, lol! And some not-so-happy ones. In the end, though, it is all a learning experience.

I watched his show as it aired, since I was an artist and he was just so funny and talented. I loved the way he would clean his paintbrushes. Something about beating the devil out of them. I had no idea until a few months ago that the internet had discovered him and revered him. He deserves the reverence, for sure. Oil painting never clicked with me personally but I love sure loved Bob Ross. It's really neat that so many others do now, too.

It makes me wonder... Are there any gardening-related analogues? As in, the Mr. Rogers style of calm, pleasant, relaxed, positive show? I love Gardening with Ciscoe, but WOW is he high energy! He's got the whole positive happy thing going, but sometimes it's like watching a squirrel. An awesome squirrel, but still...super high energy.
