General question for everyone- what is your favorite potting mix? For general purposes i suppose. is it a ProMix formulation? Dr Earth? another?

I was thinking that if enough of us liked a certain kind, we could band together and get a pallet or 2 delivered to the next meet up- and each take home what we purchased.

Any interest in that at all?

Also- to start the plant swap talky stuff- i am being over run by transdecantia (spiderwort) i have 2 different purples- one a bit more pink in there- and an almost alba lol. i am going to have to dig them up as we are going to put a dry well in the area to contain some road run off that i need to redirect. All are very healthy plants- would there be interest in those?

SueD, I would be interested in some of the spiderwort.

I need an ID on this plant from the swap.

SueD, me too on the spiderwort. I love that plant. I'd also go in on something like promix.

Robin, I'm guessing it is a lilac.

Just went to look at the swap list, and you were to get a white one from Sally.

Sue,

Count me in for the spiderwort. I'm slowly (ok, veeeeery slooooowly) restoring our back area to a real woodland again. All of those freakin' rocks keep getting in the way! I'm starting to dump 'dead' pots back there to add some soil on top. If things ever dry out enough to fire up the chipper, we'll have a nice organic start for the ferns and stuff I'm stockpiling. The woodland poppies are doing their part! What was one plant 2 years ago is now something like 60! Those suckers are coming up everywhere back there. I'm hoping to get some seeds collected soon.

I'd also go in one some pro-mix

I've set up the swap tool for the Fall 2018 swap and opened registration. This has been set up now so that people may begin creating their swap list offerings. In the hopes that drier weather isn't too far off, we can list things as they are re-discovered amongst all of the overgrowth from all of this rain.

Please note that any dates that you see are just place holders and will be updated when we have a confirmed host and location.
Over the past couple of years, we have had the actual swap in early October, so I have use those dates as a guide.

More information, including the actual swap thread, will be provided as it becomes necessary.

so once the location of the fall swap is finalized we can get that order for promix together- i hope that it is an area that has a local-ish supplier. My home depot and Lowes no longer carry the promix. le sigh. (several times) i can get it in from a local greenhouse but as much as i love them the prices are not the best as they can't compete with the volume a big box can buy. Worse case we would still benefit by purchasing a pallet or so.

I put the spiderworts on my list- i didn't add those pics, but i guess by naming it this site did that for me lol. it is pretty accurate. I think i have the Virginiana not the occidentalis- although the pics look mighty similar. at any rate that area is getting dug out this fall to fix some ponding issues i have at my mailbox- so a ton of plants are coming up. I will dig some that are blooming now and pot them up with labels. Smiling

does anyone need/want any kniphofia? it is the tall one, yellow with mostly bright orange tops. it is in a bad spot. very bad lol.

So far there has been a lack of volunteers to host the fall swap. If this is not a good time for anyone there is another possibility. Checking online, Montgomery County Maryland has numerous parks with picnic shelters, some of which are large enough to accomodate our usual turnout. Fees might require a small charge for attendees, but there would be covered seating, ample parking, flat, open ground, and comfort stations, No one would have the burden hosting,, Some parks have camping, so it could be an extended event for those with the time and inclination. Parks in other locations could be considered too. I checked out Montgomery Co. because it is central to many of our active members, and many of the locations are close to I270, providing easy pathfinding. Shelters are mostly unreserved for September dates as of this time,. Anyone have any thoughts?

Aw right, I'm offering to host the fall swap. Have no back yard and a teensy front yard but plenty of bonhomie.

Thanks for the offer Muddy but I'll be happy to host. My place is small—realized that when my "other" family (non-MAGers) came for Fathers Day. We'll play musical chairs.
