LOL, you're right Julia - no semp pictures soon!

Greg, I love hot chocolate! And yes, tears to freeze before they fall, and you don't get a runny nose until you get back in the house. Sticking tongue out

Bev, I'm just glad we got more snow today for more insulation for the upcoming hard freeze. I never have plans outside in the winter. Smiling

Chris, that is just brutal. I wouldn't even want to leave the house, not even to get in a warm car. Shivering just thinking of it.
So glad you are getting more snow to cover the babies.
We got that type of weather where we lived in Eastern WA. It didn't seem to bother them then, but sure can't handle it now.

I remember that crap too. There was a January once when I lived in Minnesocold that never got above 0 for the daytime high for something like 23 days straight--I remember we had a big party when we cracked that barrier and got all the way up to 1 degree late one afternoon Hilarious!
Hang in there

I took some semp pictures today and they all turned out crappy. Deleted most of them but here are a few I kept for some reason. It was late in the afternoon so the light was poor. For those of you that can't see your semps.

They look great, Julia. Mine look much more sad, but I think they'll be fine with some clean up and Spring arriving.

They are lovely Julia. 'Purple Queen' looks great, and 'Essense of Lime' has a wonderful deep lime color.

Bev, 'Essense of Lime' came into the U.S. last year. It is one of the new ones. Can't wait to see what it looks like this spring and summer.

We have 6 days in a row, starting tomorrow, of sunshine. I work tomorrow then have the next 4 days off. Sunshine Hurray! Big Grin

Thanks Lynn and Dirt for the consolation! 40 MPH winds today - just hoping it doesn't blow all the light, fluffy snow off my semps now.

Thanks for the pics Julia. They do look nice for this time of year!

The weather here in Ohio has been up and down - one day 4 degrees, two days later 40. I am down with a nasty cold right now - pretty sure I am dying Whistling - and such squirrely weather is not is helping. All my semps were covered with snow and ice, then it rained and melted it all yesterday, then it snowed again last night and they are all covered again. I threw a half eaten orange out on my compost pile, and that darn squirrel found it, so i guess he is fine in his cushion lined nest. Rolling on the floor laughing The benefit of having century semps is that they still thrive in this weather. Hurray!

Compared to you two we are having a heat wave right now, it's 38° this morning and will get up to 50. I'll take it. Smiling

We're almost the same as you, Lynn. Our low was 31 and it will probably hit 50 today. That would be ok except that we have 35mph winds along with it. Sighing!

We had the same wild temp swing, cwhitt- high of 6 on Monday with wind chills around 15-20 below that night and 56 and raining yesterday! If any of my hybrid semps make it through this winter they must be tough little suckers!

Yikes... I don't know if I could deal with the kinds of temperatures going on out there. -20F... forget about it.

'Thayne' and 'More Honey' have gone upside-down in more ways than one.

I love the velvety "Pacific" varieties but alas they seem not to enjoy cold rain.

'Thayne' and 'More Honey' have thrived here in winters past but not this year. I will be doing considerable reconstruction work in the spring. I haven't had the nerve to tear various colonies apart for their own health. A few other varieties may simply have to go... Sighing!

Tim, many of mine have done the same thing this winter. I have a lot of dead leaves and little green centers. They didn't do it last year, but last year was very mild. I do have a few that look to be goners.

It is cold, damp and foggy here today. Was hoping the sun would break through, doesn't look like that is going to happen today. So out into the cold to do a bit of clean up. The hellebore are starting to bloom and specie tulips and narcissus are up but not blooming yet.
Tim, going to get a photo of the 'Thayne' you gave me. Last time I looked at it it was looking good.
Every year I had trouble with 'Lavendar and Old Lace'. Such a pretty semp when it is happy.

Karen I culled out a number of colonies last year that continually had problems with either cold/wet or heat/drought. Most of mine now do well year round.
But each of us has such different growing conditions, soil, moisture, cold/dry/wind, the variations are endless. All we can do is figure out the ones that will be happy in our very own situation. Smiling
