Thought it was about time I start a new thread! We came from http://cubits.org/orchids/thre...
Today, I am doing the happy dance. I just got two great plants in bloom from ebay and the Habenaria medusae (not in bloom) should be here today.
I adore these 2:
Darwinara Fuchs Cream Puff x Ascocentrum miniatum. One of my favorite shades of peach!

And crushed flowers on Encyclia vitellina from shipping. It's a nice small plant (I wasn't aware of the size) which pleases me. Very delicate!!

It was a great package to receive and open!

Thanks Janice!! I was so thrilled because the seller said the flowers were brighter than her pic and I loved the pic. I took a chance that it wasn't a bright orange (I'm sure I would have dealt!) but it turned out to be the exact same color as her pic. She also had the wrong name on ebay for the vitellina (means the color of egg yolk) but I recognized what it was immediately since I almost bought one from Paramount this summer but the shipping and Cites cert were so expensive that I only got 4 plants from Canada. I've been looking for it ever since. The tag on the plant was correct.

Heh, good choice! Thumbs up

I am very happy, my little plants from Carter and Holmes arrived yesterday, with a heating pad attached no less and also otherwise very well wrapped.
I got Nakamotoara Newberry Apricot ( Vf Virgil x Asctm curvifolium)
and two small plants of Vandirea Newberry Jasmine ( V. amesiana x Sedirea japonica). Lee had mentioned the Vandirea and when I looked at the Carter and Holmes website that time, I couldn't resist. I was hoping these two would have arrived before Thanksgiving.....

Yes, the heating pad works. I have gotten Orchids in the middle of Winter with a heating pack, no problem. Andy has done it and surely others as well.

Me, too. I worry on my end where it can be so cold if I'm not home because the packs run out at 72 hours. But I've done it often. Sometimes CA sellers can forget to put in a heat pack even when I asked because they forget how cold other places can be. That last order was from NJ.

We were yesterday the happy recipients of a wonderful present from a generous friend, FedEx dropped off a nice box of Orchids!!
He went shopping at Oak Hill Gardens and had a hand picked selection shipped to us. Smiling Smiling The Orchids were very well packed and shipped in a styrofoam box inside the carton with a heat pack included.
Here is the list:
Cirrh. sikkimense
Holcoglossums quasipinifolium, wangii and subuliforme
Den. peguanum, a tiniest plant with 3 spikes
Cleisostoma arietinum, in spike!
Angraecum didieri
Aerangis mystacidii x decaryana
Aspasia lunata
Den hercoglossum

I love it!!

Wow now that's a friend. He's the best!! Can't wait to see the three Holcoglossums especially!

I got my Dendrochilum javierii today. Frozen! Only had a 60 hour heat pack and it was a high of 22 today. I've complained. I've always gotten a 72 hour pack and never even thought there would be any problem. I'm watching the spike droop and droop. GRRR! Grumbling

Beautiful plants and the BEST friend, Ursula! I just love him myself!! LOL.
Kathy, sorry about the heat pack. I do not like those things myself and think they don't work very well, or haven't for me.

I have one plant bought I think in 2004 or 2005. It is a good size plant by now, doesn't say peep. Now sometimes one does pick up a dud, so I bought another plant from Andy in the Spring. This one turned out to be a lot smaller than my older plant, so I probably have to wait another few years for that one to bloom.
I don't think it gets enough of a cool rest in my care, so that may be the problem?
