Lynn I love pots, I buy them every where. The big ones were a birthday present from my daughter 4 years ago. My local Nursery imported them from Mexico.
Years ago on vacation and before 9/11 I left cloths behind to pack pots in my luggage from Mexico.
Those are handsome.I love what the Mexican artizans do with animals and birds. I can see why you left clothes behind. Those pots are irreplaceable.
Do you take them in for the winter?
Good thing about the Mexican pots they do not have to come in for the winter. I kept them on the porch so not a lot of moisture only the snow that blows up there.
They are very heavy I often wonder if they use something closer to concrete than clay in their pots.
No winter housing needed then if they are protected from too much rain and snow.
Most containers from Mexico are Terracotta clay.It is the coarsest clay and very heavy.
I have no place to store ceramic or clay of anykind except on my front porch which has a cover .
Jo Ann I have brought terra cotta pot in the states and they are light weight and I left them on the porch and they cracked. But the Mexican pot are fine.
The large Head pots I cannot lift them I put them up on styrofoam blocks and cover them with plastic for the winter. They have been out there for 3 years now.
It's my opinion the US uses a mold system that allows for thinner walls. In any event if the pots get wet and there is constant freezing, they will shatter and break.Glazed pots will loose the glaze also. Your styrofoam and plastic system sounds really good. Straying dry is the key.
Cinta love all the pots. I'm like you guys I like that eclectic look rather than every pot matched. All my pots are plastic or some light material because I have to move them myself. Just one ceramic in the shape of a giant coffee cup.
This is what some of mine look like today. We have had a week of rain and cool temps 50-60 day 45-50 night.
Is this spring?
The little geraniums in the front were only a 1.00
The bright fuchia pink petunia is one I grew from seed!
That really is filling in nicely tarev. In that kind of heat I bet those plants love the plastic container. It would hold the moisture in better than terra cotta.
Love the bright red color also.
