Lynn is right.

When a valuable contribution to the site is made (contributions to the db, good gardening ideas, etc) then acorns are created (out of thin air).

When they are spent on raffles and badges, they disappear entirely.

Interestingly, the number of acorns in circulation has been pretty stable for the last 6 months. The number goes up and down by about the same amount each month.

Oh ... this will be a GREAT raffle! I've purchased Trish's soaps, hand balm, candles and dish cloths ... Wonderful stuff!! I have to admit that I've never heard of Tomato Soap either ... I thought it was a joke, but it sure sounds interesting. I love tomato's and I love creamy rich, lathery soap so I'd really like to try that one some time!

This just popped into my head: Back in the old days, kids who said bad words were threatened by mama with ~ "If I hear you say that word again, I'm going to wash your mouth out with soap"! ~

hmm .... makes me think that tomato soap might have been favored by some kids in those days. Green Grin!

That is an interesting fact Dave. I'm wondering if it is because of the Raffles that are not raffles?

Yep, that's right. The raffles tend to bring in about as many acorns as were earned during the month previous.

There are currently 73,537 acorns total in existence. Almost 10% of them are held by one person. Whistling

If it doesn't taste or smell like tomatoes, what is the benefit of the tomato soap?

Trish said:Soaping is really just a big science (chemistry) experiment. Finding the combinations of ingredients that play well together to give the end result. Soap is really just a chemical reaction with the fats/oils.

......
Th tomato soap is made by puree tomatoes as the liquid. The tomato's sugar content with the cream/milk makes it creamy and lathery (made up word).

Thus concludes today's lesson Green Grin!

Because the lye is so hot, it cooks away smell, often color, and (presumably) taste of all of the ingredients in the mixture. There are exceptions (honey retains some scent, oddly), but that's why the essential oils are added at the end when the lye has cooled- it's no longer hot enough to kill the scent. That's also when you'd add other healing oils.

Wow, great explanation Trish. I'm putting the bread and mayo away now, especially after reading the work lye.
