zuzu I am inspired to have a great grouping of roses like yours. I think that looks awesome. Here is the ones that may be Dolly Parton. They are both beautiful. The pics could be better.

I too like to try to get plants to root. How do you do yours? I have rooted my Cherry Meideland rose a few years ago. I had 2 that I did but one of them died after a while. I haven't tried anymore roses since I don't have many except Knock out roses now. I used to have hybrid teas and they are way too picky for me. I like the shrub roses better.
Here is a pic of my Gruss van auchen. There are 3 of them and they never get very big so this year I am trying to get them to grow a little bigger

I love that last photo, Veronica. It's beautiful.

Shirley, I would bet any amount that your lavender rose is Veilchenblau.

Here's a closer shot of the blooms on another Veilchenblau in my garden. I love this rose.

Dolly Parton's such a pretty rose. I love that shade of orange that's so deep it's almost true red.

I have no training is propagation I just like to try everything when I get it. I take the rose that has bloomed off to the first set of five leaves. Dead head the rose and I leave two sets of leaves. I do that so I can tell in a couple of days if they are doing. If they are they stay healthy if not they wilt and I promptly pull them out. I just keep close to a source of water and keep them damp. . If they take I smile it they do not it is oh well. Late fall I took a long stem from the pink shrub rose and just stuck it in a pot. I mean this thing was at least two and half feet long. I kept it damp and under a camelia bush and away it went. I planted it earlier this week and it is blooming. I am still trying to get to all the new dirt and mulching I need to do done. I took three smaller stem cuttings at the same time and one died and two are puting out leaves. I like to do things in threes. I just stick anything and keep it damp. It is surprising how many take. I think the secret is just good potting soil and keep it damp. Here is a pic

How pretty! Is that Queen Elizabeth? The funny thing is that Queen Elizabeth, in contrast to most other roses, is grafted to keep it small rather than to help it grow big. I have a few cuttings of Queen Elizabeth that I rooted. One has grown to the top of a magnolia tree.

wow that must be an awesome site when in bloom. It could never get that big here. Roses go back to sticks in winter and have to be cut back. It is amazing how fast they are up an blooming once Spring pops. I would love for my lavender rose to get that large. I think that is an amazing color. Mine is planted in the shade and I have never given it the care it deserves. It gets forgotten. I am going to try harder this year. Nothing new today. Dolly has lots of new buds coming along. shirleyt

I am so surprised and delighted. They are all budding out again. I just today dead headed all of them. The yellow rose is a beautiful full blooming site now. I have it positioned on the deck to view with my morning coffee. The blue birds came back and are busy with their nesting in the house on the rail so it is coffee at the table instead of outside for a while. I just love this time of year. Everyone have a great time in your gardens and post lots of pics.shirleyt

zuzu you asked if the newly planted rose is Queen Elizabeth.....not to my knowledge. The prettier pink rose is Queen Elizabeth according to images I have researched. The one I just planted is a the shrub rose that blooms so profusely. I will post for you the one I believe to be Queen Elizabeth. I love this one. The first rose is the shrub the second is Queen Elizabeth

This one QE It is a much prettier rose on a more compact bush and last much longer and is a little lighter shade of color and very easy to propagate. Which is why right now it is my favorite. If I can root some of the others I may change my mind. Bear in mind I do not have all the selections you have. lol. shirleyt

I have never seen a compact Queen Elizabeth, it always seems they are at least an upright 6+ feet tall. The bloom does look like it though.

The grafted ones stay compact, from what I've heard. Mine are all own-root because the gophers ate the original graft on one and I've been sticking pieces in the ground ever since. Gophers like Dr. Huey. They rarely leave enough of it to grow into those "pillars of shame" that occasionally embarrass me.

There are lots of gophers here too, but mine don't seem to eat rose roots. I have several Dr Hueys to testify to their distaste. Ours are "pocket gophers" what kind are yours?

Sue I meant they did not sprawl like the shrub does. I have to cut the shrub back several times during a season. I only cut Queen Elizabeth for shaping and Roses go dormant in the winter here and start over in Spring. Check out the length of space between the leaves and the length of the stems in general in the above pics. That is what I was talking about. The shrub grows much much faster. When it gets too out of hand in the space I have it which is by a circular drive I really have to cut it back....then away it goes again. I do not know what they would do if I did not cut them. The man at the nursery said they would both continue to bloom as long as they were dead headed. I stay on top of that. Monday is dead head day around here. lol I am new at this and I am learning as I go along. I know to dead head faithfully and hit them with Bayer mulch well and when watering do not get water on leaves because they will promptly turn yellow. What is that about? It rains on them and they are fine and I have no chemicals in my water. Country living means personal deep water well. shirleyt

Ah, I see. Well, here, roses grow bigger anyways so I've seen it quite tall.
