Ooo, that's a poster shot, Ursula, the middle one of Thai Cherry. You got the lighting really nicely!

Jim, that Aztec 'Toni' is just a winner for color, shape and what a bloomer! It's on the top of my Wish List. Wonder if this cloudy, rainy summer we've had is to blame for your Vandas not blooming, Jim? That and maybe they're getting less light because of the Aluminet as well?

I still have a couple of Catts threatening to pop, if it ever stops raining!

I've been out and about today. I wound up down in Sarasota at a palm lady's place looking for another sourch She also had orchids and gave me a couple. In turn, I bought a couple of palms. I just got home and am whipped. I have phone duty at the Extension service tomorrow but will get it all squared away this weekend.

Lovely color on Thai Cherry! Lovey dubby

It seems we have a perfect storm to look forward to on Monday. Tampa will be crawling with politicians, reporters, protesters and a hurricane. I would shrug it all off except my wife works downtown in the Federal building. we are still trying to figure out how to handle this mess. Wish us luck.

She would if she could but she is the office chief and needs to be there for the other employees. Lots of organizations and schools are closing tomorrow. We are hoping they close the Federal Building. Meanwhile, it has been dark and cloudy all day and it just started to rain. I expect we will get bands of wind and rain coming through for the next couple of days. To tell you the truth, I don't know where I'm going to put another foot of rain. The back 40 is still a swamp, the lake is very high and it is just pouring outside. I should take out the grass and plant rice.

I mentioned I went down to Sarasota to meet a lady palm grower/seller. She also has several orchids and gave me a couple. One was a species Dendrobium with no name attached. I will have to wait for a bloom and perhaps we can ID it. The other is Brassocattleya maikai 'Mayumi' HCC/AOS. I've looked it up and it is a beauty. Just in case someone is interested, the palms I bought are Livistona drudei and Copernecia hospita. I'll have to worry about the cold tolerance of the Copernecia until it gets bigger so I may just plant it in a pot in the ground so I can quickly move it to the OC on a cold night.

The rain just let up so we'll see how long before the next band comes through.

Yes, sure hope they shut down your wife's office, Jim. It won't be any fun getting downtown tomorrow even without rain bands from the storm.

I just got back from the Sailing Squadron with our little sailboat in tow. There was an impressive squall while we were taking down the mast, black clouds screaming by, horizontal rain going fast enough to sting your face soaked me in about 2 minutes, before I could tie down and attach the trailer, and get into the truck. Rain only lasted about 5 minutes, though. Let's hope with the storm itself moving pretty fast, the rain bands will go by quickly and not drown us too much. But keep your snorkel and gator repellent handy!

Can't wait to see your new orchids.

Hope you guys down in Florida survive the storm as well as the convention! I would certainly not hesitate to
take 'personal time' just to avoid it! It would be nice if some of this rain went to places that could really use it.

Believe me, we're all wishing some of this rain would go where it's needed, too! Maybe if we all stood outside and blew towards Oklahoma some would get there?

So far, only a few quick squalls and very short showers. But tomorrow will tell the tale when the storm center blows by us offshore.
