Hopefully it won't be as bad, I keep fingers crossed!

I have a nice Orchid opening. This is Habenaria medusa and I have been watching this little pot spiking and budding for some weeks.

Habenaria rhodocheila is a repeat bloomer. The spikes are a bit short this year, perhaps I kept the pot too sunny. edited to correct - this is Habenaria erichmichaelii, not rhodocheila.

Bulbophyllum tremulum is another reliable repeat bloomer. The weird blooms have brush-like lips which wiggle in the slightest breeze. I think I got better pictures a couple of years ago, so I include them here too.

In the meanwhile - the plant is now established on Cork.

And a couple of years ago I took all keikis off the mother plant and restarted it. This is Dendrobium Maiden Charlotte.

And Cischweinfia sheehanae surprised me with a couple of blooms.

Ursula, I love the Habenaria medusa. What a beautiful little flower.

I was up at 5:00 this morning. It rained most of the night and it was pouring when I went off to the gym. Patty left early and made it to work just fine. When I came out of the gym about 8:30, the rain had turned to a light mist and continues that way. There has been no damaging wind and it continues on a northwest track which will pull it away from Tampa. I think we dogged a bullet. Now I feel for those poor folks in New Orleans who just can't catch a break

Thanks Jim. I will update that one when more buds open. I am right now truly smitten with it.

I am glad you didn't get hit with a real Hurricane, although I am sure it was wet enough...

After months of hand wringing, I finally have a Vanda in bloom. This is V. Princess Blue X V. Kasem's Delight.

Ursula, your Habenaria medusa is adorable... I love those flowers! Is it difficult to grow and bloom?

Ursula, do you have a way to find out the parentage of Blc. Frank Fordyce 'Waiakea Uka' and Blc. Golden Tang?

Jim, yes. The Frank Fordyce was registered with the RHS in 1981 and it is Blc Golden Slippers x Lc Colorama.
And it was posted on OSF, as in here -
http://forum.theorchidsource.c...
The Golden Tang is Blc Waikiki Gold x Bl Richard Mueller.

Lindsey, isn't pretty? Smiling
I got one of them in March from Parkside, It was just starting to show some growth. The other one came from J&L I think last year. They are warm growers, so they will go inside in the Fall and I would think they will go dormant, so I will not really water them in Winter until I see new growth in Spring. I will park them along with my succulents. That is how I keep the Habenaria rhodochila, that one for several years now.

Thanks, Ursula. There is an orchid club meeting tomorrow and I'm going to take them to be judged. I need the parentage to complete the form. We're still getting a few rain bands. It will rain hard for 5 minutes or so and then nothiing for an hour. I now see clearings here and there so I'm guessing it is about to go away. I went out to sing at a nursing home and just returned. No wind damage that I could see but some flooding on the roads. It's been a wet summer.

Oh, I stayed with old names like Blc etc, not the new RHS genus names. Not sure if you have to go with the new names. But, in case you do - here are the links for both plants:

Frank Fordyce:

Golden Tang

Keeping fingers crossed for a good score on both! Thumbs up

They put on a good show and I received lots of complements but no ribbons. Bill Thoms himself came up to me and complemented me on growing such nice orchids. I did come home with a couple of new orchids so check out the "I Just Bought" thread.
