Looks delish to me!

"Out of the two varieties I planted, I like these the best. They're much crisper and they don't have big seeds"

Which varieties are those? It looks like one of the Oriental varieties, ribbed and spiny, of which several varieties I really like.

They are, Shoe. The name of them is Hybrid Suhyo Cross.

I tried a similar (long and thin) type last year and had no germination of those seeds, so these are an extra-special enjoyment this year. Big Grin

I've been growing rhubarb for years and have never made jam from it,
Yesterday I made strawberry-rhubarb jam---delicious

Didn't realize what I'd been missing.

chelle, I am so glad you are here with us on our Edibles forum. I always think Cottage Gardens and Veggies go together anyway!

I am really impressed with your pickles. I want to make refridgerator pickles myself this year. Never tried it before. But haven't gotten to doing it yet. That jar of pickles looks so good. Smiling

Paul, my rhubarb isn't doing very well this year, I think it didn't like the mild winter, and this hot summer. I ususally have huge crops of it, but not this year. It's just kind of hanging on, but not thriving.

Shoe, you are so right about having children around us keeping us young. Your DD is beautiful and your garlic is huge, do you remember the name of the garlic?

Paul, congrats on your rhubarb jam! You'll definitely be addicted to it now!

Patti, that DD is now 18 and going to college next week. Yikes! As for the garlic, that is standard "grocery store" garlic, usually "California White". I've grown it from the store for a couple decades now; it's much less expensive than the special varieties offered on websites and does well here most years.

Thanks, Rita.

I wasn't even sure that I was going to be able to plant veggies this year, but I'm glad I did. As soon as I get a few more than a couple of quiet minutes to string together I'll post a couple of easy (= fast Thumbs up + tasty) pickle recipes and pictures. Smiling

I've got some Golden Berry plants that look a lot like that. So, how do I know when to pick them?

Here's a pic of one of the green San Marzano Redorta tomatoes. I don't have any of these ripe yet, but they are an interesting shape. Can't wait to taste them

I've never heard of golden berry plants, are they husk tomatoes, or sometimes called ground cherries? If so, I think the little husk around the outside starts to turn brownish.

I think they are a type of ground cherry and I know they are closely related to tomatillos.

I have grown tomatillos. They make fabulous green salsa. Tom, those green tomatoes you have there almost look like green peppers!

Yes, they are a different shape. Kind of like a green icicle! Shoe recommended them, so I thought I'd give them a try.

The Royal Burgundy beans are finishing up and the Romano pole beans are starting up.
Thumb of 2012-08-14/tabby/1fa5ab

Picked more Bodacious sweet corn today and had it for lunch. Am freezing some broccoli since there's way too much to eat fresh. And am drying more tomatoes. The Savoy cabbages are looking really pretty.
