Another chance to take this little one's picture. My last photo was identified by Bill as a Least Flycatcher. I think this is the same. Thumbs up

I've been trying for days to get a picture of a chickadee! This is the best one I've managed to get.

Great photos for the new year! I recently got a new camera since my old one was on its last legs, but it's been so dreary and cold out that I haven't been outside to practice with it much yet. Seems like there haven't been many good birds around here lately either.

Looks like a yellow-bellied sapsucker. I rarely see them here and they're seemingly always a whole street over way high up in a tree, so that I can barely see it even with binoculars. I always thought they had a crazy name because there are other sapsuckers with much more of a yellow belly... but they're called something else!

It is one of my favorite birds that can be seen in the country. Near where I live.
It is a very beautiful bird. It likes to be near ponds and wet places. It feeds mainly on insects but also eats seeds and fruits

Thanks for the new thread Christine & I agree with Morgan. You have a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker there. Nice shot. I have a couple of them here & they are the devil to catch shots of. I swear they have eyes in the back of their head & play ring around the tree when you try to get pictures. Aggravating! They adore my big sycamore tree & you can see all the holes they've put in the trunk.

Oh yes, thank you Morgan and Ann for the Yellow Bellied Sapsucker ID. What a name. Hilarious! Of course it must be hard to actually see if they have a yellow belly when they always seem to be belly up to a tree! lol!

Lin, thank you for the nice comments. I think those are winter birds here, or at least that's when I see them. Winter is when I can get a better look at my feathered friends. Most of the trees here are deciduous so all of the leaves are out of the way. Hilarious!

That's a good way of putting it Christine. They indeed are always belly up to the tree. 😆😆😆

We haven't had a lot of activity at the feeders. We had a little snow last night, so a bit more action out there today!

Thank You!

I'm not a big fan of snow, but ground cover certainly makes for a feeding frenzy at the feeders!

About one or two years ago I posted the photos of two owls that lived under the roof of my brother's house. I visited my brother today and the owls are still there.
Their common name here is alilicucu,
scientific name: Megascops choliba.

My husband went to take the trash out this morning and spotted a turkey in the backyard so he came in to tell me, knowing that I'd want to try to get pictures. At first I saw only two, that took off through the backyard when they spotted me but I quietly walked around and hid behind a tree and noticed there were 5 total, eating birdseed that was on the ground near the feeders. I sneaked up behind the closest tree to zoom in and get a few pictures.

I took a break from working through my three month backlog of Lehigh Parkway images Sticking tongue out to toss together a quick slideshow of some cardinals I spotted on 9 January. There were at least three of them and, at first, they would only perch in trees, where a couldn't get a clean image. Grumbling They kept flitting about from tree to tree for over an hour, before they finally put down briefly across the creek. They were about eighty feet away, (let's hear it for long lenses Hurray! ), but I will take what I can get.

See Dropbox File:

Back to the backlog, Sighing! here are a few Great Blue Heron images taken of 14 October:

LOL, I have no idea; I've never seen any bigger ones around here ... maybe the Florida variety are just small in size? Shrug!
