Beautiful, I only have a couple but I have gone crazy this year ordering lots of new varieties. I am very excited. The two I have is Chicago Star (avatar) and Joan Senior, a free gift from a nursery.

These open with a pastel yellow and fade to near white. Green Grin!

I wanted to order some long blooming daylilies, so I googled it and found a thread on the gardenweb. I know I posted this link before but thought it was worth another drop. Big Grin
The one at the top of the list is Edge of your seat, and I found it at a website where I had an order with and I got her to add it to my order. The website is called Daylilies by the Pond and I found her by google when I was looking for an Iris that I saw on one of the forums, actually two. Plus I ordered Chili Spice. So I am getting two Japanese Iris and two Daylilies. I will post pictures when they come. Sara gets nothing but positive feedback.

http://forums.gardenweb.com/fo...

BELLA SERA , I was looking for this daylilie on the internet and found it for 50.00 and decided it was too much, then I did another search and found it on Maryott's for 22.00 and I did order it and about 20 others. Very beautiful lilies on this website. I got one as a remembrance for my mother and it was called 'Grandma's Smile'. Green Grin!

ZEPHYR'S SONG- got this from a real nice man on Blooming Auction, this is the one that was 29.99 but I thought that was good compared to the only other seller on eBay wanted 75.00. Jeepers!! Hilarious!
Anyway the man is Bob Selman
Blue Ridge Daylilies
blueridge on the Blooming Auction
blueridgebuttons on eBay
I did go to his website and checked out his pricelist, he wanted 49.99 for Bella Sera, so I made my exit. Hilarious!
He does have some good feedback and no negative comments on Watchdog.

MOONLIT MASQUERADE, I could not find one I could afford except on eBay and I did order it and two others from a nice lady with thousands of positive comments. Also got 'Tuscwilla Tigress which has 7.25 inch flowers that are reblooming orange. And 'Lake Norman Sunset' a nice rose, pink rebloomer. these were all 9.95 for double fans.

Ok, that is all I have been able to find, but I am most happy about the EDGE OF YOUR SEAT with 73 continuous days of bloom and three bloom cycles. WhooHoo!!

If anyone locates any of the others please let me know, I like all of them, especially the 'Ruby Lipstick'. I tip my hat to you.

One of the best ways to have long blooming daylilies is to grow "bud builders." They keep blooming on the original scapes for an extended time. Here is a thread on the ATP Daylily forum that explains bud building.
The thread "Bud builders" in Daylilies forum

Another way is to have rebloomers. Many are listed as reblooming, but will only do so in the area they were hybridized. For example, if a daylily is listed to rebloom in Florida, where it was hybridized, there is no guarantee that it will rebloom farther north. Richard Norris of Ashwood Gardens is working on "instant" rebloom here in Ohio. Here is a thread that talks about the different kinds of rebloom.

Rebloom, Instant Rebloom and "pre-bloom"
The thread "Pre-bloom and Instant Rebloom - with photos" in Daylilies forum
The thread "Instant rebloom and rebloom whats the difference" in Daylilies forum

You can also search our database for rebloom as a characteristic.

Thanks so much for the information daylily. I am not sure I understand bud building, but I will keep reading. Maybe it will soak in. Hilarious!

As far as rebloomers go, how can I know which zone they will re-bloom in. Should I just do business with someone in by zone? That way if they say rebloom then I know it will rebloom. Right?

Someone mentioned 'Firestorm' as a bud builder on the first thread. Can I buy a bud builder or is there something I must do to it?

I think, given decent watering, a bud builder will do its thing. Now, down in the south, where there is a longer growing season, they will continue on for longer than for me up north.

Rebloom - If you buy a plant hybridized in your area that is supposed to rebloom it probably will. You are in VA - I'd recommend contacting Marietta Gardens and talking to one of them. They are in North Carolina, and John Shooter, the owner, had a lot of knowledge. I am sure he could tell you which plants rebloom, and recommend some plants in the price and color range your looking for.

I think if you just look at websites - that won't help, as they list the information the daylily was registered as.

I usually recommend people go to American Hemerocallis Society (the daylily society) and see if there are any "display gardens" near you. Here is a link to their page for VA.
http://www.daylilies.org/AHSre...

A display garden is a private, or commercial garden with a lot of daylilies, and they enjoy having people visit to see them. You can ask the people who have the display gardens what plants do best for them, rebloom etc. It is always better to see them in person than with photos.

Yes! I actually found one within driving distance. But I missed the display this year. However they have a website and a great selection. Also I can call and get advise like you said.
I will probably do most of my purchasing there in the future because they are right in my zone, right across the bay.
I was going to order from them to begin with but got side tracked. That is when I found Maryott's! Whistling Anyway, I am very happy with my choices for the time being even if they don't re-bloom. I have been all over and got a lot of good deals, and a great start to my daylily garden. Green Grin!

Susan, most of my daylilies came from Bob Selman. In fact, I just got Bella Sera off eBay for $10. He is my first go-to guy, even over Bill Maryott. After working at a company which has accumulated 150,000+ transactions on eBay, I can tell you that for a plant seller (any seller, really) to have exceeded 10,000 feedbacks as Bob has done and maintained a 100% feedback rating, he is doing something VERY right. Thumbs up

How did you get the Bella Sera for 10.00? Did you bid on it?

Yes. I check his eBay auctions at least weekly. He recently changed the sales format for most of his daylililies from buy it now to auction. He has a LOT listed, and may have several of the same plant. If I see one I like, I check to see if there are others of that one listed. So, let's say the starting bid is 9.99. You make your max bid $10. Then, if someone outbids you, there are others on which to bid the same. Works about 85% of the time on the first bid. And, of course, I HAVE to bid on a couple more to make the shipping worth it. nodding nodding nodding nodding

What is a good fertilizer to throw into the hole when I plant these Daylilies?? I know I had some powder stuff when I planted my Daffodil's a few years back. Confused

I am with Bob I do not have anything blooming now but Stella and carpet roses. The red and yellow is pretty together but no special Daylilies at this time. Stella will keep blooming until Christmas if we have the same weather as last year. I do not do any cleanup until Spring.

I have enjoyed looking at all your pretties blooming though.

I don't fertilize my dl's at all
Recommendation from Oakes
"Daylilies aren't picky about their fertilizer, and usually do well with any balanced fertilizer. We typically use a balanced mix, such as 10-10-10, of a granular fertilizer each spring, broadcasting it over the top of the daylilies. Slow release fertilizer, liquid fertilizer, compost or well-rotted manure are all good choices as well. It is always a good idea to have a soil test done, especially if you feel like you have an unusual soil situation. We recommend fertilizing in the spring after most of the risk of a hard frost has passed. Two other times you might consider fertilizing - before bloom season, perhaps with a high nitrogen-type fertilizer to promote lush growth and bloom, and in late summer or fall with a balanced fertilizer."
