Hold out until you know it's the one. I wish I had been pickier when I bought a house. I have too much into this one to want to leave but there is a lot of things that I now have realized I would want to be different. Having all our bedrooms on the same floor as the living areas seemed like a great idea, but I found out last year it is very hard for Santa to sneak around and the Easter Bunny as well. They both have been caught in the act by my 7 year old Sad

Allison after all you have been through with the move, it's a start for you and turned out great.
I on the other hand didn't take one single picture of our haunted walk through this year. I'm hoping my daughter did. We had 257 come through this year which is up from 183 last year. Everyone had a great time. We started taking down the display yesterday and hope to have it completely put away by next weekend.
Yesterday one of our neighbors handed me a note. I didn't open it right away and thanked him as he drove off. I don't even know who he is, so he must live further down our street. When I did open the note I was a bit upset. His note reads "Some of the things you did on your front yard are too much for children to bear. My child was traumatized. Please be more considerate as there are a lot of minors in this area"
We are a bit confused as our entire haunt is kid friendly, no gore, no blooding things hanging from trees. Not sure what this note meant by things in our front yard because from the street you see the castle walls, two dragon heads hanging on the front of the castle and our huge Cemetery on the side yard. We also did a kid friendly pumpkin patch surrounded by those stick scarecrow figures. In the driveway we had a photo op area set up with Frankenstein. Everybody who came to the haunt loved it and stayed for awhile to take pics with there kids. Had lots of adults come through as well. All the other neighbors walking yesterday stopped to thank us for what we do for Halloween.. Not sure what to make of the note.
Sorry for the rant.

Allison, you had a very nice display! I had a carved pumpkin...that's it......Karen, you can't please everyone, but definitely try to find out what the specific complaint was.....then you can fix it if it needs fixing, or ignore it if it doesn't!

Looked pretty good to me Allison. Wait til the neighborhood sees what you do next year! Lol!
Karen, our town has a website where you can question issues such as this and receive responses from local officials. And there is a fb page for the town, run by citizens, where they post all kinds of citizen comments, ideas, opinions, requests for info, town news and events. Maybe your town has these resources? I think this man's method of expressing his opinion was cowardly and probably not supported by others. (That opinion would be posted on town fb page if you had one like ours! )

At least he went directly to you & you can perhaps find out what bothered him. Perhaps it was just the skeletins & perhaps they recently lost someone. If you find him & that's is it remind him the Halloween leading to all Souls day is really a tribute to those who did. He better grab on to good explanations because more with sound effects is coming. A person in y=our town does hay figures, although I am not up enough on movies to realize what those mean this year.

I would go talk to him and find out what the child didn't like.. just so this doesn't get worse every year. . Nothing out there should be that bad.. I once had a teen say he couldn't leave our house .. at the old place.. some people are more sensitive. . But we had a 7 year old loving everything. . Just never know.. and can't make them all happy

Thanks everyone for all the input. Still haven't figured out which neighbor it is. Have done some talking with the neighbors I do know. Most said don't worry about it but they think they know who the guy is that is causing all sorts of trouble in the neighborhood.
We have decided that next year we are not doing the castle walk through. Gonna change the entire front yard display. We will however ramp up the cemetery with more Animatronics, Making plans for a toddler pumpkin patch walk through with lots of pumpkins, blow molds and friendly stuff. In the last year our section of the neighborhood has had a baby boom. I know of eight new babies just in the last 3 months on our block. We are working on plans for a different set up for the older kids and adults that come ever year.

We used to do a pumpkin walk through for toddlers and babies in strollers at our other house. It was great for a halloween social for all the new moms. The toddlers loved the light up pumpkins and blow molds. It will be fun to haul it all out of storage.

Yeah you know I feel about blow molds but they do serve a good purpose for the little ones.. that is why we did cute stuff in the neighbors yard at the old place.. if ours was too much they could go next door.. Figured we can always do something in the back like that next year

The last of the Castle walls come down today. Yesterday got all the scene setters down and hung to dry. For the most part all the props are inside and have been tucked away above the garage for storage.
