Is there a difference in taste or texture with diploid and tetraploids?

Now there is an interesting thought.....

Didn't know if the higher chromosome count might make it tougher when cooked or anything like that. I know in the oriental part of the world, they grow Tigrinum as a food crop, and that is a triploid right? Maybe there is something to that?

A martagon hybrid of mine, L. martagon x Brotsing, destined for the dinner table. The 2.5 inch diameter bulb is virus infected. You would never know by looking at it! I will split it in half, and put the pieces in the fridge, and begin testing how long it takes to become sweeter, or, maybe it needs actual freezing temps?

Sort of the same concept as cold weather spinach? The cold weather, frosty local spinach both spring and fall are phenomenally delicious.

I am betting that is the case. Previously, I only ate lily bulbs after they had been exposed to freezing. Not on purpose, but it just happened that way because I usually end up digging when it is much colder out. Consequently, working in the cold makes the whole process of transplanting, etc. is more urgent, and while culling bulbs for eating is part of it, any other culinary matters must wait. This year, because of all the hot weather I have had this summer, lots of plants are behaving differently. Lilies died back earlier, and seed pods in general matured earlier, too, allowing me to start fall digging and garden renovations earlier. So everything is not as hurried, and I can do more testing.

Please be sure to cook thoroughly so that you do not contract the lily virus! You could develop unsightly spots and streaks.
