I would love the idea of some kind of climate badges, but personally I would want dozens of them, to correcpond to things like the Sunset Climate Zones or Koppen climate classifications.

And those are so complex that they really need text, not 32-pixel images.

But I can kind-of-sort-of imagine something like an entire array of micro-badges, in categories.
one for minimum winter temperature, like USDA Hardiness zone
one for maximum summer temperature, to distinguish "Texas Zone 8" from "PNW Zone 8"
one for annual precipitation
one for seasonality of precip, like "dry summer", uniform rainfall, moonsoon
one for length of growing season, or maybe instead
one for first fall frost date and one for last spring frost date

It comes back to: "climate" would be done expressed with a paragraph of text or a table, not an array of badges.

Oh my Rick, that is waaay too complicated for me (ha ha). I am lucky to know my USDA zone, I never much paid attention to that in all my years of gardening, and I have no clue what my Sunset zone is or what/who Koppen is. My general PNW green tree badge suits me well.

>> My general PNW green tree badge suits me well.

If I ever get to the point where I know what works where I live, I might lose some of my interest in the academic stuff. I've only gardened here for around 4 years or so. I'm really interested in reading and relating what I read to my little microclimate.

Plus,. I think I just have a nerdy interest in nerdy things. But "climate" is one of the many gardening issues that are so complex and detailed that the purely technical, analytic approach is either impractical or requires multiple PhDs and full-time-nerdiness.

After reading everything I can, it still always comes down to trying new stuff until something works for me.

I like to think that all the reading helped me learn to kill everything only 30% of the time, instead of 70% of the time!

I think it is perfectly OK to have a badge for your own personal reasons, go for it.

Well, since I lurk in your PNW forum a lot, I almost feel like I belong. But will stick with the ones I have now.
Thanks for being welcoming though. And it is a perfect badge.

A request fro a non-artist:

How about a "Garden Procrastinator" badge? I think a calendar wouldn't have enough pixels, but maybe a clock face that was just a circle with two hands, and maybe bumps at 12, 3, 6 and 9?

Okay, my dyslexia is still working. I admired the 'Procrastinators' badge and was then confused by the 'Androids' badge.
I looked at the little picture as my brain went through the process...and thought to myself "What is an android? and why does it need a badge? what does it have to do with gardening?"

and then I thought, "That little picture looks like Perry, the Corpse Flower" *Blush*
...oh, not 'ANDroid'...Aroid...got it *Blush*
.......then I was able to laugh at my mistake. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

It is exciting to read like I do, never a dull moment!
