Are there many semps in your neighborhood??
Confession time - my first semps were taken by a friend (I was present!) from the alley behind a house - so "stolen" might be a word that comes to mind, but I call it taken...recently I went back and the semps are totally taking over, so it did not harm the stock!! But still they were taken without permission, and these ones are still one of my favorite NOID - very prolific...
I'm not advocating stealing, I'm thinking maybe you could ask the owners for a few chicks!! They will probably be glad that their plants have sparked an interest! I have gotten others by talking to people with them in their rock gardens!
(if someone came and asked me for some semps I'd gladly give them some!!)

Unfortunately I haven't really seen much around me. I did make a trip to home depot today and was shocked at the relatively nice selection of little succulents that they had in stock. No sempervivums though!

Home depot in this area does have really nice succulents and for cheap! I have noticed that they often have mealy bugs, so I keep my spray bottle of rubbing alcohol handy!
The great thing about semps is that they change colors based on growing conditions, so your plant is going to look so different as it grows, which is why this ATP database has been really helpful for me!!
BTW check out 2 semps in our database - Michaels golden and Goldmarie They are crazy pretty! (I must learn how to link things, Lynn is so good at that! - Lynn, if you want you can re-tell me, one of these times it'll sink in!)

Those are both amazing! I love the Goldmarie! Those both just got added to the plant list

Sadly Goldmarie is a european introduction and one isn't able to get it here in USA I have a friend visiting germany though and I told her she should glue it to a broach or her shoes and smuggle them in! (I'm not advocating smuggling!)

I'm sure no one was accusing you of that...

come to think of it- i have a friend over in Germany right now, as well...we could maybe team up and have our friends do some collection expansion work for us

Oh oh...am I contributing to the delinquincy of a junior?? We could though have them create a whole outfit, bows on shoes, wear a hat with a brim and that could get totally loaded with semps! There are several that are available there and not here

There are many European varieties that we don't have in the states yet. Goldmarie is one of them. I drool every time I see photos of this semp.

Click on the photo you want to use so it enlarges
Just over the photo you will see the image code [db_photo]73417[/db_photo ]
Just copy and paste the part that is in brackets, including the brackents. Voila, there you have it.

If you hover over the photo in the database with your cursor, it pops up info for that photo. You will see that those photos were entered in the database by me, with the permission of the person that owns that photo.

Nice! So Lynn, you don't own 'Bramira' huh?? I am looking forward to this and also maybe Fiesta if yours is going to be ready!

The 'Bramira' is one of those European semps and that is one of Erwin Geiger's photos. He has a very large nursery of sempervivum and does some of his own hybridizing. He has some amazing introductions.

You can look them all up by using typing sempervivum into the database search, then it will give you options of how to look for them. Just choose search by characteristics, type Erwin into the box for hybridizer, then at the bottom of the page click on Search. Voila, all Erwin's plants that we have in the database.
You can search for other characteristics, just know, if you choose to many fields it can back with nothing, or very few semps. So go back to entering just one or two fields.
