Bev - exactly! And Arif that is so funny because last night I was so tired I could barely type!!! So when you say "drive and motivation" I laugh!! But I thank you all! People and their projects/photos links, have totally inspired me!
Arif, the reason it will be light weight is because it will have an inner box, so the amount of soil will be only about an inch on each side - isn't that a cool idea?? Its like mini vertical green walls!
Chris you're right its on all 4 sides, but I did decide to make 2 of the sides have less planting holes, since I don't think I'll be out turning it everyday? Maybe!
Marilyn, this outer box is 11x 7.5 inches, so its not large at all...I like different sizes of things, and since I have a lot of small semps I figured that I will plant this with them I tip my hat to you. Hurray!

Lynn it is not possible to get distracted easily. Is it not possible to close that thread at 2012 and starting a new one? I know it does not hold a candle to that 167 page Semp thread now closed but still I tip my hat to you. . Beautiful succulents to see and I have quite a few that I never knew the ID. Lets hope my Echi what ever flowers soon. At least that is not a homeless waif like the poor lost Graptos Crying .

Arif.

I just noticed I got aphids on my Semps. I hate those things. No ladybugs in sight either. Any tricks to get rid of them?

I would spray some environmentally OK soap on them, I've never heard of them hurting semps Shrug!
And now another semp to add to my list, I've seen this one on a couple websites, but your is an amazing color! Very cool!
I tip my hat to you.

Aphids on a Semp. From Roses and other things I normally knock them of with a jet of water. Once on the ground other things make a meal of them but Semps? How about trying pressure canned air used for cleaning inside computer casings.
Bev Thumbs up .

Arif.

The jet of water would work without using chemicals. Or, if you are having a big problem use one of the systemic type products, like what is used for roses. It will only kill what is feeding on the plant. It is taken up by the roots of the plant and into the leaves.
Toney, not sure what your weather conditons are like right now? Aphids usually aren't a problem for semps. I don't see any on the lovely Maria Laach in your above photo.
Once the lady bugs move in the aphids will disappear. Be sure to check any new plants you bring home for pests before adding them to your garden.

41/2 feet by 3 feet by 21/2 feet should contain a ton if wet. Stiffening frame of pipe 18gauge. Greg, has to be lined with plastic and three more stiffening wires. Compost bin.
