Here is a chicken wire garden cage I plan on making to protect mine from the rabbits next year. I'll use it in the summer too by covering the top with weed barrier for sun protection during the few real hot weeks we get. It looks easy to put on or remove as needed.

Good Morning Arif,

And its a nice easy project too, something that almost anyone should be able to make without a lot of tools.

Good Morning Chris. Smiling What tools, only one hacksaw blade or something like that to cut the pipe. Nothing else comes to mind. Some thinking involved as to how many sockets and bends would be required. Now it is up to us as to how to apply it.
Regards,
Arif.

Would probably need a wire cutter and pliers. The pliers to fold under the sharp ends of chicken wire. I think I would make the one that doesn't use the PVC pipe, only because it would be easier for me to move and store.

Hurray! I was thinking the same thing but maybe different. Instead of PVC pipe why not use 1/8" or a slightly smaller gauge GI wire? Stiff, durable, light and malleable enough to manipulate. Two pliers for bending and twisting as to the ends of the chicken wire, gloves workers leather at back are a must and soft binding wire to wrap around and hold in place. I put gloves in bold for the ladies but gents will be better off with them on. Vicious thing, chicken wire netting. Shrug! These days I am working with it. No major damage, just like sticking your hand into a Opuntia cactus. Lots of ouches but no major blood lose Hilarious! .
Regards,
Arif.

Rolling on the floor laughing Yes, leather gloves for sure! And GI wire instead of PVC pipe would be less expensive and lighter to handle. What are you making with chicken wire these days?

GI wire and chicken wire netting I make a lot of use in my garden. Cheap and easy to work with and mostly meets my gardening needs. GI wire I also use to hang my pots with. I don't feel safe with single chain hanging contraption that we get in the market. We get sand storms with gale force winds, single chain becomes a pendulum. I make my own two wire cantilever hanging contraption. With two stay wires the pot does not move plus if greater power decides at least there is another wire.
With that chicken wire I am making a compost bin, lined with plastic sheeting inside. The frame is made with 18 gauge pipe. Per square inch the cheapest and durable material available here. Light, portable five by three by 2.5 feet square, even full is light enough to lift and move around.
Regards,
Arif.

Can you get those pvc green house things? either put potted plants on the shelves as is, or for larger areas just buy the covers to fit over the area you need to cover. Maybe not the prettiest solution, but easy and inexpensive. My semp baths are against our flat wall, we have quite a wide troughing area (don't know what its called lol) so they will be sheltered to a small extent, I don't know if it'll make much of a difference. If not I did think about putting stakes into the corners of the baths and attatching a piece of corrigated persspex as a bit of a shelter. But I'll wait and see how much pour our autumn rain affects my semps first.

I tip my hat to you. It is not the rain but the heat and sun most part of the year. Keeping it well ventilated and airy while still locking in the humidity. Rain, I will worry during Monsoons Smiling .

Arif.

My cover will serve 2 purposes: Rabbit protection in winter, cover with a shade barrier during our few very hot weeks in summer.

Kate, and all here are photos...what I want to do is have this mesh "box" made from 1/4inch hardware cloth, and have a smaller box inside which would create an inner layer - a surface for planting sedums and semps! "Weed block" would go on all inside surfaces and finally soil.
These are photo of the outer box. Where there are holes in the outer mesh, I will have plants coming through there.

Will it hold its shape after putting the weight of soil in it? What I mean is that net stiff enough. Greg it is huge.

Greg,

What are the dimensions? We want to see pics when you get it all done with soil and plants.

Take pics where its final spot will be too.

I agree with Chris, you're so creative! Thumbs up
