Bea, thanks, the La Paz is a beauty! I brought it at a local nursery and it was even marked down; and the Exotic Star and Dancing Queen, I ordered from Easy to Grow Bulbs. The Apple B. and Red Lion, I picked up at Target after Christmas sale. All the others, I received in trades. My SIL gave me the solid reds and my other SIL gave me the white with stripes.

I don't remember if I amended the soil when I planted them; may have added some fertilizer in the hole. I ripped out the asparagus ferns that were there when we moved in about 6 years ago; I really haven't done much for them. A double red one didn't bloom this year.

Tell me what you do for yours.

I just looked at Sweet Dreams and you got some beauties.

Betsy,
I see you live in Texas and grow your hybrid amaryllis out side. Very nice. I can only grow Naked Lady amaryllis outside it's the only hardy one that I know of in zone 8b.
The hybrids are grown for the Holidays. Once the bloom they are treated like indoor plants until weather permits then they are placed out on a covered patio.
In Aug sept I bring them all inside nonwater usually until the leaves have browned. Then replant in pots for holiday blooms.

Bea, supposedly Sonatini amaryllis will grow outside down to zone 7

The species H. johnsonii (St. Joseph's Lily) is also supposed to be hardier than most hybrids. Some of nurseries that specialize in native plants list this one.

I forgot the exact species of this one, lost tag, I think Hippeastrum reginae. picture from last week
Thumb of 2022-05-30/tofitropic/059c59
it was bloomed at the same time as Eithea blumenaviana. I found that my Eithea is self sterille, never got any seed
Thumb of 2022-05-30/tofitropic/325377

I use pollen from H reginae aff to pollinate the Eithea, and today seems pod are developing
Thumb of 2022-05-30/tofitropic/727ce6

I got another Eithea bloom pollinated by Griffiana espiritensis to day. Hopefully they will match.

Looks like Charisma. One of my favoriates. The flower lasted for several weeks . It is an unusual color .

Looks like you have quite a few potted amaryllis bulbs. I still have 12 new bulbs to plant not in the database, as soon as it warms up enough outside. I have several 4'x12" cedar pots ready outside. Then will pull them in Oct and plant in Nov for the holiday blooms. At least that's the plan. Crossing Fingers!

According to emaryllis.com "2008 Penning hybrid, first marketed in the U.S. in 2012. With a name like 'Red Rival' you might think that this would be Penning's bid to unseat 'Red Lion' as the preeminent red amaryllis. What actually have is a cultivar that leans to the orange side of red (termed "bright red") or perhaps the red side or orange is more like it! The flowers are mid-size, silky and deep, rather than flat. It is productive, stout, and possessed of many good qualities; an improved 'Floris Hekker' more than a 'Red Lion' poseur to these eyes. Great for pot culture, especially when foliage presents with the flowers."
