Strangely, I lost my catnip this year. I did not think that was possible. My guess is the cats rolled it to death. It may actually pop up next season, I think the roots are a pretty extensive system.

Don't laugh Rita! lol Debra I feel your pain! I am the official Feral Cat Representative around here. I have two cats inside. And about 20 outside. Made the mistake of feeding one, got so bad I had to call the city. Well the city puts them to sleep. So I finally hooked up with a SPCA grant chaser. who came and got them, had them all neutered, gave them rabies shots and chips! Well they bring them all back too! I complained I could not afford to feed those cats! Then she came over with about 100 pounds of cat food! I cant go in and out my back door with cats bombarding me! A couple of neighbors hate me ,but I got the friendliest bunch of feral cats around. lol

Sylvia, I did trap, neuter, return a long time ago. Problem was, one of the cats had just had kittens a bit before so there were 6 kittens the neighborhood kids found and came knocking on my door cause they knew we fed the cats! So I fostered the kittens for awhile. My son took two, I kept one and found homes for the others. Now, at this house, I think someone keeps dropping them off. I found a home for one but have had to take two into the shelter. Our cat is indoor/outdoor (of course, since he's one of the kittens born feral) and the other cats keep coming inside! Finally had to get the kind of cat door with a magnet.

But on to catmint, Deb, I have it everywhere if you need some! Believe it or not, I was selling cut stuff at market, a huge bunch for $1. Hilarious! Hilarious!

The magnet "locks" the door so any cat you WANT to come in wears a little lead ball on their collar that deactivates the magnet, but no other cats can come in. Theoretically. Rolling on the floor laughing i'll find out if it works.

About Rue...I would find it hard to think of it as an insect repellent. Mine blooms a lot and the blooms tend to attract butterflies and other insects! And then two species of butterflies use the plant as a host plant. So that's the reason why I grow it. So here's a Black Swallowtail caterpillar on Rue.

It has been one of the things I have meant to do - which was follow up on cilantro and see if I can grow it here. Now I find out it is just plain old coriander!

The joys of living on different continents.

Be that as it may. I grow perennial coriander aka sawtooth coriander. (Is there another name for it in the US?). It is quite useful: you can also cook with it and it doesn't go to seed whenever it thinks there is going to be a shower.

I am not familiar with sawtooth coriander. It looks very different from the cilantro I (try) to grow here.

Deb, if you can get it you will never worry with that wimpy cilantro again.

Glen ~ does this look like what you are growing as sawtooth coriander?

I also am curious as to the similarity in taste.

Well duh! How about a link http://www.kitazawaseed.com/se... sorry!
