I was wondering when I'd see the bug pictures. They are a big part of gardening. I found it fascinating the number of bugs in m Denver garden. I haven't familiarized myself with the bugs here because they seem to hide a lot. Except those water beetles. But no chance of me getting a picture of them, Treasure likes to hunt them down and eat them.

One of my neighbors was recently bitten by a brown recluse. Now that isn't a spider I want to get up close for a picture.

Bugs seem to come out more when the garden is organic and no chemicals. Since I don't own this property, a guy comes to spray for bugs around the house. When he comes, I only allow him to spray by the front door and back door. That is many feet away from my garden. I was surprised to see a tiny grasshopper not long ago, but I looked around cautiously, thinking there might be a plague of locusts. Fortunately, I haven't seen any others.

thx calin! ... a new pic in your profile. :-)

well, organic and no chemicals is a reason for lot of insects an animals in the garden. but i use both.

The main reason is my unplanned insect hotel. I collect dead wood, twigs and weeds. I build it then to compost piles that are high to 80 inches. An example in the background.

Yesterday I did not photograph insects. However, I had seen recently hatched spiders. They are so tiny that my cameras Find had photographed slightly out of focus. Here in the size comparison with seeds from a dandelion.

Actually, I do not like spiders. But I am glad that they protect my plant against insects.

Wow! That King's Spear is gorgeous. I'm going back to bed now, but I gotta make myself a note to look that one up. I also really like the Giant Solomon's Seal.

You do realize that you are making it extremely difficult for me to decide which flowers I want to grow when I'm done getting my herbs and edibles under way? My list of wants is getting much too long to fit in my yard and my neighbors on both sides of me. Hehehehe.

On Wednesday, I had a hard fight with ants in a flower pot with daylily seedlings. The day before I had the pot outside around treated with insecticide against ants and previously with baking soda. There were then only sporadically seen ants. Unfortunately, a seedling had been broken. Then I put the whole pot in a bucket of water and was scared, what is there so everything came out.

I am glad that the ant queen had left the pot too.

Then I also had a problem in the early daylilies. Every night was eroded another flower stems. Either of caterpillars, beetles and snails.

Among the Irissämlingen is an unusual seedling. Maybe an albino (not viable) a Variegata or only due to growth.

Yesterday my favorite rose Gloria Dei open up her first flower. It is a rose that I already know from my childhood. When I got myself this sort 3 years ago in my garden and I then smelled again, I felt like I was in my childhood.

So today I was looking the dataset on ATP and found the name "Peace".

After some searching on the internet I found a very interesting history of the rose and the many names. This variety was from 1945 - 1955 sold approximately 3,000,000.

Perhaps someone will know it. I am sure there are thousands of Iris hybrids out there. I have eight plants (actually probably 20 plants, but in eight pots) with flowers just like that pictured, and the plants were salvaged from a house that was being torn down. They were then brought to me in garbage bags for me to "save" them, which I did. I seem to have a reputation for bringing plants back from the dead, LOL.

I also feel a need to save plants. It is hard for me to get rid of plants I don't even like! My husband says some people do animal rescue, I do plant rescue.

I do the same. When I was a dentist (I guess I am still a dentist, just not an "active" one, LOL), I had patients bring me "dead" plants, usually orchids. Even though I was able to revive most of them, and they became healthy plants, they ended up being mine. The patients would always say: "Just keep it. I will kill it all over again!".
