Very nice, Carol. My favorite is the Bc. Bill Worsley with the great Brssavola form. Nice orange on the Lc. and the Encyclia is loaded. Good growing!

Thanks Ursula! I wish I have beautiful blooms like you guys. I love the pink Epis Lovey dubby

Big Grin You are all right, It is never the firs time that I had a bloom look this pitiful before but this one is equally interesting. I think this phal is not going to last long but I do have a beautiful close of my fairy (my DH said a "bird"). I didn't realize the close up picture didn't show up in my previous posts. I will try to revive this orchid since the plant looks healthy but I was going to cut the blooms off today until I saw this one:)

There's definitely someone lurking in that flower Gigi! Smiling

Did you try misting the flower to get it fairly wet? Or maybe gently dunk the flowers in a cup of water? If the petals are stuck together with some sticky plant-related stuff sometimes just a healthy rinse of water will unstick them. I found this out when Mother Nature rained on mine one day.

Thank's Elaine! I will try doing that. Yes, I did't have the heart to cut off the bloom after I saw something staring at me :).

Here's my "full sun loving" Epidendrum Fulgens; I love the blooms!

Very nice! It's hard not to love those reed stemmed Epis in the warm climates. They grow like weeds with minimum care. The one hybrid I have is fussy about temp, and sun, and I don't need any more plants to fuss over.

Ursula, I was looking at the International Register Of Orchid Hybrids to see if my Epi. Mabel Kanda 'Miyao' X Epi. Cordigerum 'Paradise' had been given a name. I looked to me like the name is now EPICYCLIA Serena O'Neil. How can Epi. X Epi. be a Epicyclia? Perhaps I'm just too dense to comprehend this register.

Jim, Kew sees Epidendrum cordigerum only as a synonym for Encyclia cordigera. The accepted name by Kew is Enc cordigera! Don't you love it? So you have Epi x Enc = Epicyclia
type the Enc cordigera into this search function and see what comes up:
http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/prepa...

Then click on the name and check Synonyms. The accepted name is always written in bold letters.

Thanks, Ursula. These names will be the death of me. I've been looking for the parentage of Potinara Hoku Gem 'Freckles' fotr two hours and still have no clue. I'm getting ready for the Orchid Club meeting.

Jim, here is your Potinara Hoku Gem, ready for a printout! Smiling
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...

I tried to c/p directly into this post, but I can't get the correct formatting....

or

Btw looking up Potinara Hoku Gem at the RHS registry, I never bother to type in any genus name, I would surely misspell the new names anyway. Simply using the Grex name search, type in Hoku Gem as the Grex and enter. Don't type in Potinara into the Genus line.....( or clonal names like in the is case 'Freckles'), you don't need to.

Thanks, Ursula but I don't know how you did it. I went to that home page and it looked like a bunch of chicken scratches. I need to learn how to do this and I am as lost as I can get. I am now looking for Lc. Hua Yuan 'Angel' parentage. The first thing I find is it my be called Lc. Hwa Yuan 'Angel' but wait, I also see it as Lc. Haw Yuan 'Angel' and then I spot it as Blc. Hwa Yuan 'Angel'. Now I don't even know what orchid I have, let alone the parentage.

Forget the Blc or Lc or Angel - look only for Hwa Yuan or try the different spelling of those. I will look later, I have to leave here now. Smiling

quickly, as i am truly out the door.....
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...

maybe not, have to look at the Angel as it comes up too at the RHS

the question is do you have the Haw Yuan? Or do you have Haw Yuan Angel ( not 'Angel')

Confused and Hilarious! and then Rolling on the floor laughing

Seriously, there's gotta be a simpler way to name orchids. I can't join my local orchid club now because I truly wouldn't have the patience to look up the names.

Well, here is the Lc Haw Yuan Angel
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

and here is the Blc Haw Yuan
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

I totally understand the confusion, Jim. I hope this helps to sort it out. The Room genealogy has pictures for comparison, I would take a look there and and compare other images too.

Elaine, yes, there is! many growers simply go by the old names as in Blc, Lc Potinara etc. to avoid confusions. But then misspellings can occur too, it simply happens. I honestly don't mind looking things up.
Jim, regarding the Room genealogy - I sort of tune out the gibberish and simply focus on the names. You could use your search function on your browser, but then you really need to know the exact spelling. I never do that, I simply focus on the names and they actually do pop out after staring at this stuff a bit. Believe it or not, there are also pages connected to that site with other generas. You just have to go digging.... Smiling
