I agree Love that color combo, Lindsay.

I have Spathoglottis plicata starting up blooming again. They're for sure my most faithful and long-blooming orchids.

Here's the last few flowers on my Cym. Kenny Wine. The white markings have been obliterated by the red color 'running' into them. Still so nice. Little Tols going to town, and Enc. Green Hornet in bloom again, too.

That is the "orchid disease" we all have, Kelly. Can't stop bringing home more.

I keep thinking I am pretty satisfied with my collection now, since I have something blooming most of the year. Then I go to Lowe's and see a poor little phal on the death rack, or go to Apopka and come home with 17 new orchids (spend a tank of gas and have to buy a new shelf unit as well) and I know I gots the sickness! Shrug!

I have so far not joined the local Orchid Society. Only because I know I will meet a bunch more nice people with the same affliction who will egg me on in buying more.

Forgot to say - very pretty display.

Elaine, thanks for posting Cym Kenny Wine. I'm glad I bought that one up at Chapman's. I only have one little Spath flower now but am hoping for more soon.

Kelly, good luck with the show. It is always nice to have a ribbon or two to show for all the hard work.

Out in the OC, Encyclia cordigera, var. rosea has opened the first flower of what promises to be many. I count four spikes and each is loaded with buds.

I've been trying to get a decent photo of my new Myrmechea Christian Fun but the flowers seem floppy and crammed together. It looks like this is the best I can do until next blooming cycle.

Orchids
I tip my hat to you. I might have a few masdevallias open up for me before friday evening. Why are these especial to me? Bec the past 2 years Ive owned the misc orchid group. 3 years of shows with 3 blues 1 red and 1 white ribbon. Includes 1 pink AOS ribbon, but I didnt get an AOS award. They just looked at it and determined it was a standard flower for what was usual and available. It was not better than the last awarded flower in other words. Not bad doesnt get an award but BETTER does get one. Its tough to bring plants into areas where the judges arent used to seeing them. Masdevallias are one here that arent often grown in texas and much less offered to judges for scoring. A huge masdie won best grown and best flower last year. Mine only got 1st place and 2nd place ribbons. Whistling

The phals are looking good to me too Hurray! I should have been convicted of being a serial orchid phal killer long ago. I didnt give up and Im doing much better a few years later. Im not killing them and even getting blooms on occasion.

I had to join the orchid society so I could meet people who cared about orchids. No one else seemed to care much or mattered to them at all. My family included.I had a real need to be with people who felt as I did about orchids so I joined 2 years ago and have been enjoying them as much as I can get to meetings and shows. Ive learned so much and just cant say how happy my plants have been since I joined Thumbs up

Jim, I thought your Haiku Twinkie had perhaps Epidendrum ilense as a parent, so I looked it up.
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...
I would think it is probably Haiku Twinkle? (I didn't find Haiku Twinkie). The "torn" lip is kinda interesting!

The Enc cordigera must smell nicely!

Kelly, I think you won a bunch of really nice ribbons! Thumbs up You got your eyes on the big prize!
Yes, we need to share our blooms and be able to chat about them to heart's content!

I do fine with Phals until I go on vacation and need keep them outside in the Summer, where they would be easier cared for with all the others. They usually aren't too happy with that. Except I have a couple of mini Phals which I grow bare root in small clay pots. They are reasonably ok, not spectacular.

Yep, they can be divas, those phals. Mine are all outside year 'round, and they love the cool weather, but seem to hate the transitions. Right now they're all in bloom and about half of them are putting on the wrinkly leaves just a bit. Shrug!

I've learned not to worry about it, they seem to recover just fine given time. In fact I have yet to murder one, although it's been close with a couple.

They look nice! I have murdered quite a few of them, especially in the beginning. For several years I took a break from even trying to grow any. At shows - if they are in Sphagnum, I will not give them a second look.

Thanks, Ursula. Between my aging eyes and the small type on the tag I came away with Twinkie instead of Twinkle. When some of the type begins to wear, the 'i's and 'l's look alike. If I remember correctly, I bought it at Plantio La Orquidea down in Sarasota. That's the same place where I picked up David Jr. for Kathy. I spotted the strange flower from across the room and ran to it. It is a very interesting nursery to visit. We'll put it down on your list when you come to visit.

Jim
