A few feathered friends in my backyard today. Well, the first one isn't actually a backyard bird but I did spot it when I was on my back porch.

I spotted this Bald Eagle fly to a pine tree where it perched for awhile. The photo isn't the best focus because it was a good distance away.

Now for the regular backyard birds.

Brown Thrasher and ....................... a Blue Heron that was in the backyard:

We have a great many year round "regulars" here, and a few others that only hang out through the winter. These are some shots I took while outside today.

Red-bellied Woodpecker:

And ... a pair of hawks were flying overhead today with their distinctive call. These pictures are a bit grainy because of the distance but I think this is a Red-shouldered Hawk:

Yup, that's red shouldered hawk allright.

Some birds in my yard at our new (to us) house. We have a resident pileated woodpecker who loves to eat bugs on the ground. Same time everyday. This photo was shot through the screen on the window so it's not the clearest.

Ann, those are great shots! I hear and see the Pileated WP around here all the time but there haven't been too many opportunities for good photo's. I sure wish one would land somewhere close by so I could take a picture. Love, Love, Love that first shot of the Bluebird ... haven't seen one of them in a few years!

Great pictures Lin, as usual! I especially love that Brown Thrasher. I sure do wish I had them here in my yard but not so lucky.

It is a lovely spring day. 72 degrees here and a pair of chicadees have been house shopping all morning and early afternoon. The male (I figgure it is him) goes in and out of all the backyard bird houses while the other looks on. I hope they choose the small hole chicadee house that is in the backyard daylily bed as I can see it perfectly from my kitchen door and also the back patio. They have nested there before so I hope they nest there again. Good thing I got my bird houses cleaned out about two weeks ago.

Planted some sunflowers in little seeding trays. I have seeds from Renees Garden called Edible Sunflowers. These are the large seeded kind. Usually I start the small seeded black oil sunflowers because they come in all sorts of pretty colors and the birds love them. But I decided to try these this year. I hope they pop up quickly. The weather is nice so they should!

That Black-crested Titmouse is at it again! Not sure if it knows this feeder is not for the "other" birds, but it sure seems to love that nectar!

Hilarious! Thumbs up

Great pic! I have pics with an Oriole and with a Monarch with that type of Hummingbird feeder.

Why do you take the bee guards out? Is it better they way you have it?

During the winter, we had an unusual problem with large numbers of bees coming all over the feeder. They seemed to be desperate and would crawl inside the ant guards. Once inside them, it was hard to get them to exit the bee guards. Those things didn't keep the bees from swarming all over the feeders anyway, so I stopped using them. And the titmouse likes it this way. Lovey dubby
We had that one Audubon Oriole at the bird feeder for one day earlier in the year, but don't know if it came to the hummer feeder.

Very cute ... I had no idea any birds but hummers would go to nectar feeders! I've got 3 nectar feeders out but nothing (not even the hummingbirds) seem to be attracted to them. With our heat and humidity down here I have to empty and refill them every other day or I'm afraid they'd get rancid.

I love that Black-crested Titmouse too .. that's one I've never seen but I suppose the reason is ... they are only found in Texas and Mexico! We have the Tufted Titmouse here in Florida. I've been having problems with squirrel's getting the top off the suet feeders and taking the entire suet cakes so I got this new one labeled as a seed feeder but bought it for the purpose of stuffing the suet cakes down inside ... voila! The squirrel's can't get the lid off ... now if I could just find a way to keep the Grackles and Blackbirds away!!

Here's a picture I took this afternoon of a squirrel with what's left of the suet he stole from the feeder. At one point a few of his relatives were gathered around and they were all enjoying it. I scared the rest of them off but this little one just sat there finishing his dinner!
