Thanks.
Our garden's beginning to fill in, Susan.

Renovating bits here and there:
rootlets coming up from a silver maple (thank goodness only in the front), too many Chionodoxa 'Giant Pink' (some coming up from well over a foot down), etc..

As we gardeners know, maintaining plant diversity and a modicum of neatness, in perennial gardening, can be hard work.
It's the plants that make it look easy!

Interesting, Cinda.

A gardening friend in Iowa just said to me yesterday that primulas won't grow there.

On the other hand, have read that some primula will grow in the Mid-West, including in Iowa and Indiana (latter, as you indicate).
Obviously though, not all growing conditions in all locations/gardens are the same.

As to 2 or 3 (weeks), I'd say most of our own primulas are in flower just through May;
so perhaps for a month, though the primula flowering is extended into June by the later blooming candelabra-type primulas, including Japanese primulas.

We have hot summers which are also humid.
As to the sun, in our garden, the primulas are shaded by the taller perennials through summer.

Very pretty! I wonder if the Langtrees would do good here.

Thanks, Susan.

I've seen the horticultural distribution for the species, Brunnera macrophylla, given as U.S. zones 3a to 7b.
You're 8a; just outside.
Microclimates? Sorry. Not sure.

I find that here, the species, B. macrophylla (Siberian bugloss/false forget-me-not) can seeds around too much.
'Langtrees' seeds a very little (source of new plants), but not so much that it ever is a problem to control.

The leaves of 'Langrees' are certainly not as fancy as those of Brunnera macrophylla cultivars like 'Jack Frost' and 'Dawson's White'.
All of the Brunnera I tried here are long lived, but the only ones that have seeded are 'Langtrees" and the species.

Green Grin! Thanks for the advice. I have found that plants that like the cooler climates are not so much about heat tolerance as they are about needing a cold spell. I noticed last year that people in the Midwest were much hotter than me with tempts up near 120°. The highest we got was 102°, I only thought I was dyeing mainly because of the humidity it feels like 120°. The problem here is that the plants do not get a good enough cold spell. Some things won't bloom and other things fizzle out because the dormancy period is not satisfied.
Love your flowers, what is the plant at the bottom with the pink flowers? Thank You!

Susan, very interesting comments.
Different perennial gardeners, on ATP, clearly have different opportunities and different challenges, depending on their local growing conditions.

Lewisia cotelydon 'Little Plum', Susan.
Pretty little plant.
Lasts several years here (in sun), think that's as long as there's good drainage.

I have been wanting to try a creeping phlox, I love the varigated one. I am not sure of the zone requirements.

Had forgotten about variegated trailing/creeping phlox (Phlox x procumbens 'Variegata').
Must look for it.

Have read USDA zones 3 to 9 for it.
