Sounds nice Lucy, seems like spring is finally here!

Charlie those crocus are beautiful. I have some new cultivars of daffodils that are getting ready to bloom and they are pink!!

Very nice Morth! I hope my pink ones bloom soon. I had some weird daffodils down the side of house when we bought it but they never bloomed!! They were planted too deep. I finally dug them up two years ago and planted them on the back side of my corner garden and looks like they have gone crazy. They are the small ones that look like doubles and bright yellow in the sun anyway!

Interesting, Lucy, about different locations in any one garden.

In our case, we have structures and hedging that blocks light, notably in spring, when the sun is low.
It used to bother me that the bulbs, of a particular type, don't come out at the same time throughout our garden.

Now I appreciate having say crocus blooming staggered, towards the house, in front and towards the cedar hedge, in the back.
Lengthens the bloom time.

Thanks, Susan.
Have only purchased forced pink daffodils.
Quite impressive.
Will be on the lookout for some in the fall.

Those are so pretty, Morth.
I love daffodils.
I would have asked whether it was worth planting daffodil bulbs (non-paper whites) once they've bloom and when the weather is OK.
Thanks for the example you've given above.

Agree with David Tomlinson (Merlin's Hollow) about planting bulbs deeper than the (Dutch) instructions where we live.
He says to plant the larger bulbs at a foot, which I do.
Since I'm gradually, but continuously, digging in organic matter, surviving bulbs may be getting bit deeper still.

Darn, I forgot to hit finished!! Anyway as I said earlier but forgot to send, yes that is it! It is 12" and each flower looks like a bouquet. I am amazed how much it has grown in only two years. Very pretty!

I am wondering if it depends on where you live. I was reading about planting lily's in containers and it seems that the lower you plant them the wetter they get. So if you plant them with other flowers that need more water just plant them higher?

Charlie, almost all daffodils, after forcing, will successfully respond to garden placement; some noteworthy ones include Jetfire, Jack Snipe, Itzim, Falconet, Kaydee, Ice Wings, Thalia, Derringer, Ice Follies, Hillstar, Petrel, Salome, and Sound. At least, for me, these have stood out.
Hyacinths, Muscari, and Crocus also do ok.

Thanks, Morth.

I've only tried it here very occasionally and only with the very small daffodils.
Dierdre, at Merlin's Hollow, does it with hyacinths and says the flower still looks nice, but is less dense (more elongate?) than when the bulb previously bloom, forced in the pot.

I must try it with the variety of forced daffodils we're buying.
It's unfortunate that buying forced bulbs, in pots, usually means you don't get the cultivar name.

An issue here, with planting out perennials previously purchased for earlier spring indoor display, is that much of the ground may remain frozen into March/April.
This year, as said, a portion of our garden is still under snow and ice, even now.

Was a cold period (snow last Wednesday).
It thinned out the crocuses in bloom.
Think the larger purple and white Crocus vernus-related crocuses where more affected than the smaller yellow-ochre C. flavus-related crocuses.
