Mima, there's a ridiculously long word for ascribing human emotions to non -human species whether they be plant or animal, -(anthropomorph-something), and people tend to laugh or look sideways at people who do this. Personally, I prefer the company of people who love their plants and furry friends, and feel loved in return, a little kindness and compassion goes a long way, especially in today's world.

I'll bet your plants, and guinea pigs are thriving....!

Yesterday, we went to a festival in our area and besides all kind of cool stuff there, we've seen lots of plumies. I took pics of some of them because I was wondering what could have happened to them: some were having literally scars on their stems, or signs like the bark was peeled off in some areas, some of them had the leaves very damaged, like burnt or with little holes in them. I was curious what could have caused all those. Here are the pics:

Is this a real plumeria name: Hawaiian Gardens?

I forgot to upload the picture where is very obvious the burn/peel mark on one plumeria and a kind of a hole on another one (maybe a cutting was taken from there?):

If anybody can help with any input on these plumies. I'd really want to go buy a few, now that I found out about the JJ ones at Lowe's: they're so small and not at all cheap.

Here are the pics again, I circled the areas that looked bad:

The big hole is definitely where a cutting was taken. The big brown spots looks like rotted part or sunburn and the rest more like imperfections. They may have beautiful blooms but the older plumerias do carry some imperfections. Rule of thumb, choose healthy plants from reputable growers/nurseries.

I pressed and held all the branches that seemed weird to me and they were all firm under my fingers. I wouldn't choose one of those imperfect/damaged ones anyway.
I have to ask where do they get them from.
Thanks for the input. Smiling

I couldn't get a hold of the nursery staff at the phone, to ask about the nursery/grower they are getting them from. I left a message and then somebody called me back and left a message with completely different info than I needed. So, per their message, prices are:
1 gallon - $19.99
5 gallon - $49.99 (I guess the Hawaiian Gardens was something special at that price)
15 gallon - $119.99

And they have 50-60 5-gallon plumies there now.

I'll try to find out if they grow them or where do they order them from.

I usually go to admire and sweet-talk to my plumie everyday but last couple of days were chaotic, so I skipped this ritual.

Today in the morning, being a nice sunny day, I went out to take some pics of my girl and... I noticed a dead leaf almost loose!!!

Here are pics of that leaf. I am very concerned, what could have happened? Any advice would be deeply appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Oh Hetty, you lift a stone off my chest. I was almost crying!!! I tip my hat to you. I haven't seen any yellowing leaf in any of the plumeria pics, but I guess that's because nobody wants to show these in their photos obviously.

Phewww, I can breath again now!! Thumbs up

Thanks for complimenting "my" inflo. I love it, it grows, but it's kind of slow comparing to what I've seen here, on this forum. It was tiny about a month ago and it's obviously growing but man, it's sloooow!

Hi Mima, the slowest I've had seen so far was my Puu Kahea, we had a warm winter and it was confused and started an inflo in December and the first bloom opened up just a couple weeks ago :).

I called Cal Poly Pomona's nursery and asked about their plumies and she called back leaving a message that they got them "originally" from Hawaii from Jim Little and other well-known growers from around the world (Thailand? US? didn't specify) but now they grow all of them in house, and all the cuttings are made in house too. They grow about 30 types of plumeria. Smiling

Had a heck of a week and didn't have time to chant to her every morning, but seeing her today just made my day. As a matter of fact, I've watered them yesterday but the littleleaf just growing was kind of screening the inflo, so today I've touched it a bit to move it in what seems to be a more comfortable position.

The only thing is it keeps shedding leaves. In more than a week 2 yellow leaves fell off and from its look, another one is going to sometimes during next days.

It looks like you might have a bloom in 2 weeks or earlier depending on sun exposure. Is this outside already? Not sure why you keep having yellow leaves.

It was outside from the beginning, that is how it was grown at the nursery. They were keeping all their plumies outside for what I could see.

So getting yellow leaves is not a common occurrence? It already scares me. I fed her Osmocote slow release about 2 weeks ago maybe, and I used less than it was written on the bottle for that size of pot. If you think it's too much fertilizer anyway, I could remove the upper soil and replace with new one, with no fertilizer. The nursery guys told me they use only water soluble fertilizer each time they water them.

On the other hand, I don't know for sure what the soil mix is in the pot, it's mulched and I can't see through it. When I water it, water comes out the bottom pretty well, like it does from my cycads pots which I know for sure have a very good drainage mix.
