Jan, your Bulbine is nice! Anyone look up the zones for it? Neal?

Bev, I'm seeing zone 9 and higher for Bulbine.

Thanks, Jan, that's good to know, sounds like a good one for the deck or front porch.

Thanks for checking, Neal:)) I thought that I'd looked at that one somewhere before and decided that it wouldn't do here. I'd love to say that I would pot it and protect it over the winter, but my life is too complicated right now...Not even foolin' myself, lol!

I grow so many potted tropicals, at this point adding another would hardly be noticeable, LOL.

If I could only get those danged kids to leave the house, I'd convert at least 1 room into a space to overwinter more stuff! Maybe it's Divine Intervention keeping me in check. Whistling

I bought 3 golden stargazer lily bulbs on ebay but they never came up. If I can find them here I would like to try again. Didn't see the golden in any of the coops but maybe I just missed them.

Susan, from time to time I have planted Lilies that didn't show up the first year, but sprouted and bloomed the 2nd year. So keep an eye out for sprouts next spring (and mark the spot so you don't damage them if they do sprout). Lack of drainage can easily cause the bulbs to rot, and they are quite tasty to voles, but if you haven't had those issues I think you still may see them show up.

If they don't come back, you may want to consider another variety. Golden Stargazer was one of the first yellow Oriental-trumpet hybrids to hit the market, and I've heard reports from gardeners that it can be short lived in some areas. Conca d'Or is a great alternative- huge, fragrant blooms of medium to light yellow, and returns bigger and better each year. I think with better yellow OTs now available, fewer vendors are offering Golden Stargazer.

Thanks Neal, I want fragrant yellow with spots for cutting. Think it will go smashing with my animal print decor in the living room and add some much needed color to the caramel kitchen. Who needs fabreeze with fragrant beauties like these.
JMorth are the yellow blaze highly fragrant? The color would work great for me as well.

Gorgeous, jmorth! That full yard shot with Yellow Blaze made me gasp! Perfect in every way!

Susan, the only thing Conca d'Or doesn't have is spots. Come to think of it, I don't think any of the yellow OTs I grow have spots, or a noticeable amount of spots. Hmmmm...I'd recommend corresponding with Ramona (Faraway Flowers- she offers awesome Lilies) and let her know what you're looking for. I think she can point you in the right direction. The Lily Garden is a good source to look at too, and they specialize in Lilies for the garden (rather than the cut flower market, as many hybrids from Holland are intended for). Although they're not fragrant, some spotted yellow Asiatics would be nice too, many bloom several weeks before the fragrant varieties and would look pretty at least.

That garden shot really does go a long way to explain composition of a July blooming garden. This is one of those images I'll keep referring back to. Thanks for sharing jm.

I hope they will be. They seem taller than the 12-24 inches noted in the description on B&B's.
