I got seeds last year and planted them. They haven't grown much, as I haven't been regularly feeding them. I'm taking better care of them now, because I believe I promised them to a friend who does well growing plants from seeds. He gave me a nice size pot of epi hookeri that he grew from seeds. I keep my epis in hanging baskets in my garage for the winter, but I'm thinking I may need to bring them indoors to get them to bloom. They just grow so lankly and take up so much room. Sighing!

Nice! You'll have a big clump, maybe sooner than you thought!

Wonderful! Hurray! Well done! Please post pics every few days as it develops. I was advised to give them more water at this stage to stimulate the stem to elongate. I'd had blooms one year on short stems, nestled among the foliage, and I was told it may have been too dry.

I've been keeping an eye on mine, as it has been unpredictable. Some years it has bloomed in March, last year it waited till May (when I had given up hope and assumed it had stayed too warm through the winter to bloom). This winter I've kept the foyer closed off from heat, that's where the Clivia and 3 Cymbidium orchids, and a Jasmine are overwintering. All are looking happy so far, fingers crossed.

When I had daffodils and hyacinths before, I have observed after it received its required cooling time, for the blooms to wake up it needs good sunlight, while temps are still coolish as well. Give it time..it is still winter, maybe in late Feb it will show better.

Oh that is another bulb I want to try later on Freesias.

Clivia bloomstalk more prominent now, buds looking a lot less like pressed buds. I gave the plant another sip of water yesterday. So giving a good interval with the watering.

Buds starting to show just a bit more now..and bloomstalk doing the dance that reminds me of the amaryllis as it slowly tries to follow the sun. Thankfully some of the leaves are helping to hold the stalk nicely in place.

I gave the Clivia some water yesterday morning, and in the afternoon, the bloomstalk slumped way too much to the left..I thought I have made a major boo boo already! But looking at it, maybe it is just following the sun, since it is to the west in the same direction it is in, and there is no leaf to block its slump having been taller now:

umbel looks okay, buds being pushed upwards slowly
Thumb of 2015-02-03/tarev/07aa3b Thumb of 2015-02-03/tarev/9394bd

just took a photo of the stem..got wider indeed

This morning of 03Feb, all is well once more, bloomstalk is more upright, a leaf helps to support it once more:

Umbel is starting to open wider:

Very cool! I've seen them do this, similar to Amaryllis the way the stem elongates quickly and will follow the light. Just turning daily kept them mostly straight.
