What are your favorite bulbs to grow in containers?

Looking good, jmorth! I figured you'd be having some early blooms soon :-)

Thanks Polly! Do let me know if you have suggestions- I'm a dummy at stuff like this, LOL. Also open to any forum suggestions.

Ditto here. I shove the drinks aside and make room though.

Ah, yes! Hydration is secondary to bulb storage. The drinks go in the kitchen fridge. I have my own refrigerator too. Smiling

Any suggestions on how to best hold over the hyacinths, tulips and daffs I get in bloom at the local grocery. I have been able to keep some alive. Not many. I realize they are forced, but how can I give them my best shot.

They're kinda sentimental, as my husband gets them for me instead of bouquets for events. At my request. I know a bouquet of roses is wonderful, but a hyacinth scents up the kitchen for weeks.

Polly, I just keep giving them light and some moisture till the foliage yellows naturally, then allow them to dry completely. Then you can pop them in the ground any time before the next cold season. Sometimes I give them some weak fertilizer solution while the foliage is still green too.

Teacup, if its warm enough there, you can keep the pot outside where it will likely get more light. The more sun the leaves get, the better job they can do of replenishing the bulbs for next years blooms. Paperwhites aren't winter hardy here, but I believe they should be just fine in your zone Smiling

Thanks Neal,We just got a forecast of probable snow 3-6 inches! (more snow than anyone can remember in 30 years)for Tuesday/Wed after having a high of 78 on Sunday. Guess they will stay inside a few more days before going on the porch. After the foliage dies back can I just remove them from the pot and store for a while while I wait to see where I want to plant them(winter has probably killed several plants but I'm not sure) or would it be better to immediately go into the ground somewhere?

Right, the bulbs will be fine to just remain dry and dormant till fall.

I've never done this before, I bought some daffodil bulbs that I would like to plant indoors. They have one to two inches of stem showing. I would like them for table decorations in a month, When should I pot them? If it makes a difference, they are Peruvian Daffodils.

Are these bulbs you just purchased? If they're growing, you should definitely go on and pot them up. I think they'll have a good chance of being in bloom in a month- they're in the Amaryllis family (I think), which makes me think they'll bloom quickly. It's been several years since I grew them, but as well as I recall, they were fast.
