Kim, when growing bulbs in containers, I usually add some porous material to the potting mix, like fine pine bark. So many potting mediums are so peaty and hold a lot of moisture, but adding something to enhance drainage usually does the trick.

Kim, I bed that would do the trick. Considering so many bulbs are native to mountainous areas with quick draining, gravelly soil, its easy to see how moisture retentive soil could do them in.
Ice Wings is precious!

Neal, this past winter/spring was my first try at bulbs. They bloomed well. After they finished blooming, I moved the pots to the side of my shed to let the leaves turn yellow and die back. So...... what do I do with them now? I didn't have many, but I would hate to loose them. I'm in Louisiana zone 8b.

Same pots in April. The paperwhites and hyacinths were gone and the tulips started blooming. I really enjoyed having blooms when everything else was so bleak.
