Do we have an official date yet?

I'm enabling registration to start tomorrow, 20-Mar-2023. Since we're starting to get warmer weather, this will allow people to start adding to their list as they uncover things in the yard during clean up.

Some changes. I am sorry to change this. Josephine asked her husband if he could go to the swap on May 20th. He could not since he is in a choir and has a performance that day. She is going to his choir performance. Maria cannot go either.

Bob and I are planning to come on the 20th, and thanks for the info, Ralph & Jill, on the other.

Jill, I'll take 2 of those trays and if possible, would like 2 clear humidity domes as well, but only if I can just buy 2, thanks!

The 2" humidity domes for the 1020 trays are $3.50 each, in packs of 10. Chantell and I were just tree-mailing about trays and domes, so I'll let you know. I'm assuming you're interested in the low ones (for germinating seeds) and not the 7" vented ones.

The reviews for the 2" domes sound like they are sturdier than the ones my local garden store used to carry.

Anybody else for trays or domes??

There's a funny video showing them lifting a coworker who's standing in one of the trays. I guess they really are sturdy! I think it was UV exposure that eventually weakened my old Permanest trays, but they lasted for nearly 20 years, and some are still in use... if these last 10 years (or more?), I'll be a happy camper.

Rick, do you have min/max numbers on the trays (eg, "at least 12 and up to 16") or do you want exactly 15? Either way I've got you.

We're up to 30 trays now, $3.60 each in groups of 10. In a carton of 50, the price drops to $3 per tray.

I started reading that and thought, right now you'd need to order 35 to hit 50! LOL

Hoping more people jump in, because whether 10 at a time or at the bigger price break, it's a great price for some very sturdy trays. If you've only ever used the somewhat thin & flexible ones that break after a year or two, you'll be amazed by these.

I can't speak for the sturdiness of the humidity domes, although they get good reviews -- I just haven't laid my hands on one. I have a set of colored 1020 trays and figure the black ones should be the same thickness etc.

I got 3 sets of the colored ones a few years ago. They're still going strong.

I really like the colored ones I got last month. Not to mention, it's very nice to pull a pristine tray out of the box instead of wiping down one of my old stained ones!

How big are those trays and how high are the domes? I have some of them, but not sure they are the same.

I just edited the first post with the details to date. I'll keep it updated as more details occur. It is easier for me just to keep track of everything related to the swap in this single thread rather than trying to keep up with multiple threads - we tend to cross mix content so chat gets mixed in with details anyway Green Grin!

These are the "standard" 1020 trays, about 10 inches wide and 20 inches across. I wouldn't guarantee that their domes will exactly match up with another brand of tray. It's likely, but if you want to be sure of a match, order both tray and dome. And let me know what height dome you are interested in! They come in a 2" unvented clear dome and a 7" vented clear dome.

Please look at the greenhouse megastore site for particulars. We are looking at the following:

Black mega heavy duty 1020 trays. These are about $3.60 per tray (with tax), and must be purchased in sets of 10. In a carton of 50, the price drops to $3 per tray.

2" clear plastic humidity domes. The 2" clear (not vented) humidity domes are $3.50 each with tax and must be purchased in packs of 10.
https://www.greenhousemegastor...

(maybe) 7" vented clear humidity domes. The 7" clear vented humidity domes are $6.70 each with tax and must be purchased in packs of 5.

Jill, I will take 2 or 3 of each of the trays and 2" domes for seed starting. I'm fine with a set of 2 or 3, whatever works for the group, thank you for handling all this! And thanks for the peroxide tip, it has helped start some seeds, but many are very stubborn and still not sprouting. I'll keep trying again though, I'm going to soak longer this time.

Sheela, do you have a source of bottom heat? What seeds are you trying to germinate? Bottom heat definitely helps germination of peppers and basil. Tomatoes will germinate just fine without it, but will germinate in half the time with heat.

I once found that my oven's light (oven off, only the light bulb on), with the door open 2", kept the interior at an even 86-87 degrees for germinating a tropical vine. So you don't need a "seedling heat mat" (although I love mine), just get creative.
