I usually do too but we have not had enough rain. Only a couple quick showers. Everything that isn't drought tolerant is crispy. I have hardly any lawn left in back. Just dirt and weeds. I get my shoes filthy walking through the yard. I wish there would be enough rain to get the ground good and wet! But not too much usually here we either get it for a week straight or nothing at all.

I installed a drip irrigation to them this year. I had laid out the 1/2" tubing last year. Just had to run the drips to them this spring. They seem very happy. I just can't keep up with watering the lawn. I have to keep the sprinkler running so much and keep moving it. And it still looks dead. In the Butterfly Garden the phlox, asters, rudbeckia and even coneflowers foliage is mostly wilted every day even with me trying to get the sprinkler running on there once a week. I completely lost all my Heuchera in my front garden. The Balloon Flowers flowers are half the size they usually are. When I walk on the brown grass barefoot it is like needles stabbing me in my feet. I am trying to water enough to keep everything from dieing! Got to go, have to turn on the sprinklers! lol

Robert & Meredith, both of you seem to have some lovely blooms even though it's so dry....DLs are usually reliable no matter what the weather.....

Some of my garden areas aren't as well amended as others. In the front my DLs stay small and stunted looking and put out less impressive flowers. Of course I don't post pictures of those though! lol Here is an example of what I am dealing with. This is Agastache foeniculum which is supposed to be tolerant of dry soil. (It is in a wild area - I stick stuff I don't know what to do with there and dump all my deadheaded stalks to let grow what may! - Only the tough survive!)

That is what a lot of stuff in the butterfly garden looks like right now. I am noticing things that flourish in avg. years are much shorter and not blooming well.

Here are the Balloon Flowers
Thumb of 2016-07-07/Meredith79/fa4f71
Here is them last year (same spot + I put compost down there last year and fertilized this spring.)
Thumb of 2016-07-07/Meredith79/7f3220

All a part of being a gardener right! I am understanding more how all the people in areas that experience droughts regularly feel. In the past I thought I was lacking rain but the garden never suffered as bad as this year.

fewer stems on the daylilies this year. Watering ban except in the evening with the mosquitos. Any water we have goes on the irises. Never water grass.
