@poisondartfrog, Thank you for answering the question for me...I'm not getting notifications for some reason in this swap. I'll look into that.

I'm happy to try lowering the count this year. It will give some new players a chance at getting some great seeds to grow, collect and share next year. Smiling

@theflowerlady , Poisondart is correct about them counting as just one named variety BUT if you have some separated by color, you could offer them separately as well {not towards your 50}. I for one am not a fan of mixes but may be interested in separate colors. A dib is a dib towards new packs for you. Smiling

I'm going to try and take a look at how lists are shaping up in the AM.

Sounds great! Thank you for clarifying that.
That's good to know! I myself prefer individual colors which is the whole reason I separated colors this growing season. If I know others prefer that then I'll keep them seperate and possibly create a smaller pack with a mixture.
I'm still separating and packing seeds over here. Gotta grab more baggies so I can divide up and show them in the swap

Just finished first seed swap in dnd's. I'm thinking of joining this one. For sure next year. If I have enough packs then I will this year. I noticed people are talking about dibsing already. Do they mean wishlisting or does this one do it differently?

Hello JJ,
Maybe you are referring to the extra seeds? We aren't dibbing early, but there are some offers out there. First, if you post a list on the wish list thread, we have a nice box of donated seeds from @bluespiral that we will be sharing. If there is something in the box that matches your wishes, we will put that in your return envelope.

Also, if you go to the U-Pick game thread, there are seeds on offer there you can choose from. Today is the last day to choose from that list, so if you join, head to that thread and list up to 4 picks to receive those in your return package.

There will be a new U-Pick list tomorrow with new choices.

Asking about growing old seeds is a loaded question in my family. My dad was notorious for saving something he liked and stashing it in the cool, dark, unfinished basement in IA and then it would resurface in the future in an unlabeled pill bottle or jar after unknown years or decades. I've had ipomoea make it past the decade mark easily. The winner is the Black Krim tomato that I remember mom specifically buying from the grocery store at a markup bc it was labeled as the heirloom it was so she could grow this variety she remembered her mother growing when she was a kid my age. She saved those seeds when she grew them out the following year around 1992. I found them 20 years later cleaning the basement and while they took over a month to emerge they did just fine. Any of you who grew that tomato from me grew that time warp strain. I don't even look at the age of seed when picking tomatoes in a swap for this reason.

I wasn't too surprised when my 10 year old "1,500 Year Old Cave Bean" had 100% germination. Hilarious!

I absolutely love your your seed story! Is it ok if I add "time warp strain" to my seed terminology from now on?
It's awesome when old seeds sprout.

Is anyone interested in gladiolus cormels? I don't want to take up extra space in the swap so if it's of no interest to anyone I won't add them. I mostly grow the large ruffled types but this is a mixture I would have no idea what's included.

@theflowerlady , I would be interested in giving them a go...There is absolutely no worries about taking up space. The flat rate bubble envelope will hold 1000 empty seed envelopes, it will easily hold 500 seed packs with seeds/bulbs.

I don't think there will be 500 packs available for each player...list away!

Thank You! @Mollie670
I've been in NGA swaps for a few years now, but not this particular swap. I missed last year entirely due to spending 4 1/2 of 7 months in the hospital as my husband went in and out for multiple complications of cancer surgery (Dec. 7, 2022). He's hanging on, but still has the cancer, a stent where he used to have a functioning bile duct, a non-healing area of the surgical wound and a new chemo that's making him real tired.

@theflowerlady - Yes! I'd love to try the gladiolus. I've had a few bulblets like that survive to flowering size here in years past.

Can confirm. I shipped 500 dibs to DnD for last year's swap in the flat rate bubble mailer, and it contained a lot of big stuff like garlic cloves, walking onions, beans and a ton of squash packets. It was an effort, but it did fit. Those envelopes can hold a ton because you can force and stress them a bit since they are quite robust.

If I offer bulbs how should I package and mail them? I don't want them to get moldy or crushed. I'm currently drying my polianthes tuberosa and considering offering some medium size bulbs. Pictures show bulb size in my hand and Google Image of the flowers. They are a cut flower and also used for perfumes for their fragrance.

@Mollie670, ooh, those are pretty! I haven't had to package bulbs for mailing ever, but my instinct would be to wrap them in paper - newspaper or small brown paper bag. They don't look to be small enough to fit in seed envelopes from the picture, but maybe #6 envelopes would work. I'd avoid plastic unless they are really dry. Alternatively, you could throw some rice in with them - it works for drying out cell phones! Green Grin!
