Good morning 🌄

I was just looking through my seed list to see what I have added. I discovered I had made an error. I listed geranium herb Robert and the description I wrote under it was for coconut scented geranium. I changed the name under that listing from herb Robert to the coconut scented. It had been wish listed twice. If this was you please go check to be sure that you uncheck the coconut and you can go look and find herb Robert.

Sorry.

Wonder if I'm talented enough to pull off two swaps at the same time....

This one is 100 different varieties, right?

Finding the time to add all is all consuming though....

And bagging. Man, I really want to try. Has anyone done it?

For this year, the minimum number was lowered to 50, so not as time consuming this time. Smiling

@Mdntnmtgmy

Many of us have done more than one swap back to back.

You wouldn't be bidding and packing at the same time. The swaps have a lapse between them.

I just looked at your trade list in the other swap today and saw a post with multiple packs ready to go. You are in great shape!

My seeds for each swap are packed and ready to go at the start of each swap.

I use baggies and file my offered seeds alphabetically. The name on my package doesn't always match the way that the system lists the seeds so I file them alphabetically based upon how the system entered them. An example would be my packet will say calendula but the system puts it as pot marigold. I would file it under p because when I'm looking for calendula people dibbed on at the end of the swap it is usually going to say pot marigold. Make sense? I also make bags with each players name prior to any dibs taking place. This makes it so that each day when I check dibs I can pull the packs and put them in the players baggie that won them with ease.

When the swap closes, I print my lists, check each bag to be sure all dibbed seeds are in there and off they go!

I do something very similar with the return envelopes for players. I have a flat rate priority bubble envelope with each player's name and address all ready to go. When people send in seeds I simply open their package and drop bundles of deep seeds from other players into their envelope. I am usually able to mail within 24 hours after receiving the last envelope.

My biggest problem is getting all the seeds that I would like to share and get out there listed. There are many times that rather than list them I will put seeds that are a couple of few years old into a separate thread and let people choose which they would like.

If you decide to join that's great, if not maybe next year. 😊

Congratulations @AudreyDee, on your wins in the Victory Seed Company photo contest. No idea when I voted for your entry that it came from you. I tip my hat to you.

Yeah, I'll have to sit and start sorting/packaging, but yeah, getting them all listed into the list is so time consuming

Alana,
Thanks for the vote! The photo of squashes and pumpkins was from the only year those did well for me and that probably was beginner's luck. (The other photo was one I took years ago of my mother's harvest.)

So, vegetables aren't my strong point, but I keep trying anyway. At least the flowers which were in the vegetable garden did well this year. The very large cosmos plants now have collapsed atop the very small onions! So, I may be able to harvest lots of cosmos seeds for the swap if frost doesn't come early.

I added in a purple Peony Poppy today. My seeds were from bakers Creek but I got a few different types of blooms from them.

Thumb of 2023-09-24/ishareflowers/5f416a

I had to find this one in photos and screenshot it, I kept choosing the wrong photo when trying to see the photo tiny in my phone.

I planted some in my neighbor's yard because I have bad luck in my garden with poppies. They bloomed with 3 different types of blooms.

This is what they were all supposed to be.
Thumb of 2023-09-24/ishareflowers/6b6718

Just a heads up that they won't bloom all as peony poppy if anyone is interested.

That reminds me...I was going to add a note to my offering of 'Zulu Prince' Venidium from Farmacie Isolde: It's supposed to be the white selection but it actually grew out mixed with some white, some orange. Mine contracted some kind of crud that turned the foliage black so I ripped them out, but the ones that flowered were quite pretty. Try, try again.
Edited to add: I guess it's called Arctotis now vs. Venidium...oops
oops again: got it from The Thyme Garden (not F. Isolde)

A note of appreciation for all the great seeds that have been and will be listed again this year.

The fern spores two swap members provided last year yielded more ferns than you can shake a green snake at and I gave away many, including to a classroom doing a terrarium project where each kid made their own mini-terrarium.

Thanks garden friends. The kids loved it.

Last year I did three swaps here plus I participate in a few plant specific swaps on reddit as well as list seeds on Seed Savers Exchange for only the cost of SASE so I get quite a few orders. Between DnD's, the Mile High, and the Natives swap on this site, I shared about 1000 packs last year.

I do not bag ahead of time bc I do not have room for leftover packs. But like ishareflowers, I start working as soon as dibbing is underway and in my case start putting bags together then for the bigger swaps. It's not a huge pain in my opinion until you start getting over 300 packs. The site itself is clunky to use and I would recommend avoiding the Plant List feature and just putting your energy into your Swap List.

I packed 500 things with what I sold plus extras for DnD's last year and that was pushing the limit of what was possible to pack after the fact and meet the ship deadline for the swap while working a full time job. I even got help from my partner. I finished packing the Saturday morning of the deadline and was not able to double check everything like I normally would, so had a few escapees I was luckily able to include for people in the subsequent swaps. I will probably stay under 300 unless I can get a head start with things I know are in high demand and will definitely sell.

Lol, I sometimes feel like this community should send 'condolulations' to true newbies RIP to your former organization strategies and how much storage you thought you needed, as your interests explode with possibilities and opportunities you never knew about before! I have never been so challenged as a biologist/ecologist and yet never gotten so much stink eye from my loved ones due to seed collection as I have since participating in these swaps, haha!

Does anyone want Black Walnuts this year? I'll list a few if anyone does. They are big, so 3 would constitute a pack. The tall trees grow fast and you have shade in 5 or 6 years, nuts in about 8 years, and plenty of them. Keep in mind their allelopathic qualities; some plants won't grow around them so plant accordingly. Squirrels are big fans.

Phytolacca americana, Pokeweed. Before the birds eat all of the highly poisonous (to humans) berries, does anyone want any seeds?
My grandmother enjoyed Poke Salad, as she called it.

Related Halloween story, almost. Yesterday I was doing a few outdoor chores while on the phone with one of our swap mates and I gathered a handful of the berries, staining my hand purple. A few minutes later, still on the phone, I passed a tangle of Sungold tomatoes. Yes, you guessed it. I plucked one delicious golden morsel with the offending purple stained hand and popped it in my mouth, as I always do when I walk by. After the call ended and I realized what I had done, I sat down and waited to die. Not this time, I guess. Hurray!

Gee Alana, I'm happy to hear that it didn't have an effect on you!

There are so many plans out there that a dangerous that we don't even know about or I don't anyway. 😂

I can't think of the name of the plant off hand but I had one growing in my garden. I ripped it out bare handed and got all kinds of juice all over my hands. When I was looking it up for identification I found that it is very very dangerous to humans. I guess I was lucky because I wash my hands immediately after.

There are a few plants or actually shrub type bushes that I break out in hives if it just touches me. My holly bushes are probably the biggest offenders for me.

I'm heading over to wishlist to see what I might be able to add in. I have plenty of seeds to add in providing I get some time to do so.
