Hazel eyes, I think it's just the weird season, at least here anyway. I still have some that don't have scapes and they are many more that have just begun to send up scapes. There are a few that I have more than one clump of and one has scapes and the other doesn't.

Sometimes increase on a new purchase is as good or better than a scape!

I was just sitting on the front porch, talking to my DH on the phone, and looked at my ditchlilies that are soaking in a big bucket until I plant them. I found a scape!!! Never in a million years would I have expected that!

Looks like Calico Day might be FFO, everyday I find more scapes. Looks like I will have to freeze pollen so I can at least pollinate some things this year.
By next year a lot of my cross seeds I planted should bloom.

Natalie my ditch lilies I brought from the house last year sat in a cardboard box outside for a few months under my potting table.
They perked right back up when I finally got them into the ground.
Tough little things. They now have scapes.

Dot Hurray! for increases ,I have an old daylily that is doing that Ice cream parlor I got late last year.4 new fans where the others just gave me one.

Glad everyone is finding scapes as well...Now to wait for FFO Smiling

Thanks. I had no luck finding a photo of Pink Panther, and it was from 1977. I've heard of the other one though. Found a picture on the AHS site. It's gorgeous!

I am happy to hear I am not the only one with stunted scapes. Red, Hot, and Boom, which I purchased from Nicole last year has sent up 4 scapes that are only a foot tall and blooming below the foliage. All scapes are loaded with blooms. I sprayed my usual Murphy's oil on the buds to keep the thrips at bay. Works like a charm. Follow Your Fancy is also blooming with short scales. Today, I noticed 'Happy Returns' is full of scapes and tiny buds. So I guess it won't be long before those small little yellow clusters brighten my garden. Michelle, Mayalsian Marketplace which you sent me 6 weeks ago is loaded with big healthy blooms. As is Barbara Mandrell and Celtic Butterfly which James Hall sent to me 5 weeks ago. I didn't cut the scapes off. Inquisitive minds want to know! All blooms treated with magic Murphy's oil concoction. This has been a cool, wet Spring with more rain to come this week. 1 1/2 days of sunshine, and 4 days of rain. Then it repeats. Please, Mother Nature, bring on the sunshine! Grumbling Angel

Hehe I'd take a foot. Some of mine are only 4-6 inches! The bloom I posted today is on one of those.

Do tell, what is your Murphy's oil concoction?

A foot didn't seem bad to me either! I've had them come up and bloom when they are only a couple of inches!

Hi Natalie: It just looks odd to see big buds and flowers blooming below the foliage.until I read this topic did I understand that others are having the same problems with 'stunted' scapes. I thought maybe I have done something to cause this problem. Now, I understand that is a weather problem caused by the cooler and rain soaked Northeast. The exact opposite of last year. Also seeing problems in my veggie garden with absense of seeds sprouting. Seeds probably rotted from too much rain. I will have to resow some radish and lettuce beds.

JWWC: Hi. I noticed some of my red flowered buds were being eaten by some bug. I assumed it must be 'thrips'. So I took the advice I had read abouton this forum offered by Bob Schwarz. His organic recipe 1/4 cup of Murphy's Oil mixed with with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle. Red and purple flowers should be sprayed several weeks before they bloom. I sprayed the moment I saw some damage on several of my plants. Red, Hot, and Boom was he first this get the treatment. I call this home remedy a magical concoction because it works so quickly and efficiently to get rid of thrip infestation. Each time a plant reblooms, its best to spray the buds again. I prefer using this organic method to using insectisides in my gardens

Alex, it's been a very crazy year for many of us, and you are right about it being the exact opposite of last year! One thing I did read though was that some of those very tiny scapes are very late rebloom from the previous season. I'm not sure if that was the case or not with the ones I had that were only a couple of inches, but it makes sense. Almost every daylily I have is supposed to rebloom, and yet I've only had one that has actually rebloomed at a normal time.

Glad everyone is getting scapes.
I have scapes finally on my lost tag and NOID ones.
The NOID ones where extras when I bought my daylilies last year.So hopefully I can Id them when they bloom. Some look like they will be huge flowers.
