We sure had a tough weekend, we had to take a few nice walks and then watch Turtles swimming in the pond. It was hard work!! Angel
Jim, I am not sure exactly about the id of the second Encyclia. Here is what I wrote last year:
I have a clump of Encyclias which sports three different plants. I bought is as Encyclia tampensis 'Chocolate'. (from David Walker) Hmmm, the Encyclia tampensis smells sweetly of Honey and the other two ( most likely) hybrids with plicata and phoenicea smell very nicely of Chocolate. ( plant picture to follow another day) I am really enjoying this one!

Surely in Dave Walker's greenhouse was some "random" hybridization going on.
And the other spikes are ready to open this week.

Lovely blooms this weekend here! Lovey dubby
Jim, have you sniffed the blooms on the Enc brassavolae, especially in the evening. I smell carnations!

Regarding the little Groundhog, my backyard neighbor is not enamored with the little fellow, as he ( the neighbor) started up a Veggie garden. Whistling

That last Encyclia picture is striking, Ursula.

As for fragrance in the OC, Enc. Lee Ward has taken over. There are lots of flowers on that one and I can smell it as soon as I set foot out there.

I just came across this little thread about identifying Orchid noids, perhaps you might find it interesting. And that is when in bloom!!

Yes, I agree with the thread. Interesting about Dtps being cancelled. I guess they tossed it into the Schomburgkia box.

My Schomburgkia albopurpurea is opening two small spikes. Now if you want to grow a Schomburgkia and don't have the room for one of these large Space - hogs, this little Schom is for you. It is tiny!!

Darwinara Charm 'Blue Star' opens two spikes and I am happy. This was one of the plants I had moved into the garage when Hurricane Irene hit. Unfortunately I changed its orientation when I moved it back into the cage a couple of days later and so it burned really badly. It finally put on enough new growth again to bloom.

And this Bulbophyllum levanae hasn't bloomed in many years for me, but it is a beautiful healthy plant and always adds nice growth. ( I have it since either 2002 or 2003) Here it is in bloom this June!

I had to shake off some persistent/smitten flies off the Bulbo when I took it inside for pictures.

Love them all, but I think Bl. Tiny Kiss is my fave. So delicate. Love the color on the Darwinara, too. Oh, and the Schlom is an elegant color combination.

Very nice show, Ursula. The Schomburgkia is lovely. Those and Brassavolas are at the top of wonderful orchid list. Also of note is the Bl Tiny Kiss. Delicate is the best word for it. Bulbos are so cool!

I have lots in bloom and in spike but I may miss some of the blooms as we leave for vacation a week from today. Such is life.

All nice, but I love the Schomburgkia and the Darwinara especially! I think the Darwinara is the closest thing to "blue" there is, without dying. Lovey dubby

Hope you found a good orchid-sitter, Jim. Maybe they will take some pictures for you? Can't hurt to ask, and everyone seems to have a camera phone these days.

This is a NOID vanda that blooms twice each year. The pics were taken in pretty dark shade but I think the colors came out pretty well in this setting. One day someone will come up with a name for this vanda so that I can finally label it. Ken

Very nice color on that Vanda, Ken, but I can't give you a name.

As far as an orchid sitter, my neighbor has volunteered but she doesn't know anything about orchids. About the best I can hope for is to have her mist them with the garden hose when she gets the chance.

That's a beautiful color on that Vanda, Ken. Who needs a name for a vanda that blooms like that twice a year?

Thanks, Ursula, Elaine, and Jim. One of my quirks is to have all my orchids properly labeled. It just bugs me not to know what the plant is.
