I had to look that up for us - Northern NJ gets about 47 inches rain annually. I need about an inch/month to stay "afloat" with my rainwater collection. ( collecting off the greenhouse roof)

Nice one Bree! I use my phone camera as a last resort. You just can't beat a real camera for orchid pics!
Jim and Elaine, glad you've made it through the storm..it's just passing us here in NC.
Ted...I enjoyed your useless info chart, how do you deal with the monsoon season in September?

Greetings, Eric. We're looking forward to seeing some pictures of your orchids. I am up the road in Sarasota, so sure hope there wasn't an orchid fest locally that I missed!

Despite all the rain and wind yesterday, I have a new bloom open today, a division of my NoID Brassavola that we think is 'Yellow Bird'.

As far as I can tell the extent of damage to my orchids from the storm was one oak tree twig that speared a leaf on my big catt, out in the quarantine ward.

Eric, you are growing lots of very interesting Orchids, hopefully we might get to see them as time allows.
Looks like you are an experienced grower!
Have YOU seen the Ghost Orchid on a visit to the Everglades?
Btw I love the Peristeria, looks like wax!

Regarding Redland - you and Jim should have experiences to swap! Smiling

Elaine, pretty "most likely Yellow Bird".

I spent the day at the Extension Service on phone duty and I am tired. I managed to pick up around the yard and have all of the debris out on the curb awaiting the trash guys tomorrow morning.

Welcome Eric. Redlands was great and I got to visit Fairchild Tropical Gardens as well.

More tomorrow.

Glad you Floridians are OK with the storms! We are having a lot of rain here, too, which is unusual. Usually the summers are very hot, humid, and no rain.

A few weeks ago I visited Oak Hill Orchids in WI and took a lot of photos while I was there. They had a ghost orchid in bloom. And guess who didn't take a photo of it, Duh!!!
They sell them for $18 for a small mounted one but admitted they are easy to grow in tissue culture but have a hard time with them once they are mounted. Kind of blurry, at that price I had to try one. Thumb of 2013-06-08/lakesidecallas/2647c1

A young fellow on the other forum had several, and he did get one to bloom, growing it in a terrarium. I'd guess high humidity and the right light situation is critical for them. Good luck, Susan.

I'm going to satisfy myself by going to see them growing in situ - one of these days!
