The eco web product looks VERY interesting...after seeing how fast my plants out grew their
clay pots. Thanks for sharing ladies!
Elaine your Spath. plicata is a really neat flower with distinctive colors...I like these plants!
and Ursula, your Lc Tropical Pointer 'Cheetah' is just adorable with those spots!
I've got a new picture to share this morning Den. Burana Jade Yellow

Lindsey, great color on your Den. Burana Jade Yellow.

Elaine, nice Spaths. When I got my first one a few years ago, they were only available in one or two colors. Now they really have a good variety.

Ursula, nice eco web demonstration. I'll bet Brassavolas would really do well in that stuff. Also, I agree with Lindsey in that Lc Tropical Pointer 'Cheetah' is a winner!

It's rainning here again as it has for the last several days. Everything is soggy. I guess the dry season is history. The grass is growing so fast I hardly have time to gas up the tractor. I spent the afternoon redoing the guest room toilet with one of those Home Depot kits. I'd like to meet the moron who wrote those instructions. Angry

Elaine, we don't mind repeats, I love the Spath plicata!!

I haven't tried lately to post from my IPad to this forum, has anyone checked that out?

Lindsey, pretty Dendrobium! Now since this Orchid founds its voice, it will probably bloom more often for you.

Jim, I have a Brassavola Little Stars in Ecoweb, it does fine.
Regarding the instructions - heh, at least you are reading them... Rolling my eyes. Smiling Were they in Chinese? Smiling

I have been noticing my Rhyncholaelia digbyana has not been looking quite right so I inspected it today. It has the dreaded black rot but only on one side of the plant. So, I pulled it out of the pot, sliced off everything that looked infected and washed away all of the potting medium. I filled a bucket with rain water and added a heaping tablespoon of Dithane-M45. I soaked the root ball in this solution for more than an hour. I then sprinkled cinnamin all over the roots and repotted it in fresh bark. If that wasn't enough, I poured the remaining fungicide solution over the plant. I hope this works as I love that orchid.

It's a pleasure, Susan.

Jim, keeping fingers crossed. And then lots of sunshine for this one, once it is stabilized.

Right you are, Ursula. I forgot to post the B. nodosa X C. netrasiri 'waxy' as it is now in full bloom. My apologies for the white fungicide residue on the leaves but with all of this humidity, I have to be on guard.

The air is rather thick these days, isn't it! Sometimes lumps fall too - rain. We have had really very little . . so far just a spritz here and there! Let's hope this storm doesn't stall up in the Big Bend like Debbie did last year.

Waxy is so pretty, Jim. You did quite the triage on that little digbyana. Whew! Now I'm going out in the next break from rain tomorrow with the magnifying glass. I am much better prepared this year to limit the amount of rain my 'chids get. One shelf unit with the Phals on it is under the roof overhang, and the other is going to get the golf umbrella attached to it if the rain settles in. The rest are mounted, and dry out so quickly I really don't worry about them.

The Spath. plicata are the easiest, longest bloomin orchids. Plus, both HD and Lowe's carry them regularly so they're reasonably priced, unless you're looking for a special color. I lucked out on that 'opal' one that changes color so much. The rest are plain, yellow or purple, Come to think of it, I do have a pale lavender one, too. Have to go take a look for it. The purples and that one are out in the shady flower border, and did stop blooming over the winter.

Tropical storm Andrea is giving us a major rain event but no damaging winds so far. The rain woke me up several times during the night and it is still raining as I type. This is probably more rain than Carol and Ted get all year. The worst part is the ground was already saturated. At least the orchids are in the OC enjoying the humidity but do not have to tread water.

Unfortunately it is supposed to rain heavily here also tonight and tomorrow, boooo. Tomorrow is the start of the Orchid Fest at Silva Orchids!! I am driving down anyway, rain or not. I suppose it is not as much fun Orchid shopping with an Umbrella, but what is an Orchid-nut supposed to do? Sigh. The vendors are all having their own tents anyway, so I see myself "tent-hopping"...

Anyone reading this is going?

It looks like I'm not going anywhere today. The wind has picked up and it is raining as hard as it can rain. I have closed most all of the windows in the OC, made a second cup of coffee, put some classical music on the stereo and am sitting in the recliner under my fuzzy blanket. Shrug!

Sounds like a great plan, Jim. I am considering putting the umbrella over the catts and brassies now. We are under a tornado watch at the moment, and it is coming down like a fire hose.

Wishing we'd gone over to the Squadron yesterday and tied down the boat, but it's too late now.

Tornado warnings are over for us now, thankfully. We've had some pretty dramatic gusts of wind, and a bucketload of rain, but nothing damaging. There were at least 8 small, very brief tornadoes reported so far!

Now I need to get out and cover the 'chids!

It has stopped raining and it looks a little brighter outside. Still a brisk breeze but the worst may be over. I have several palm fronds down, especially on the Bismarkia. Time to go to work.

It is really gusty outside. I gathered up seven palm fronds which will make quite a pile for the garbage man tomorrow. I was thinking we were pretty much done with the rain but I looked at current radar and there is plenty of nasty weather moving up from the south. Elaine should be screaming any minute. The lake has come up a lot since this morning which is OK as it was low from the dry season.

We still have strong wind gusts, but it looks like the rest of this huge rain band will pass to the east of us. I've measured over 4in. of rain this morning!

Won't need to dunk any of the orchids this week, they all got a thorough rinse with nice fresh rain water. All the rain barrels and cisterns are full, too. Yay! Hurray!

The best thing, though is when these tropical systems go by they take the humidity away with them, for a day or so at least. It is beautiful and cool outside right now.

Glad to see you guys making it OK. Los Angeles county average annual rainfall is 15.14 inches. In Carol's Santa Ana it is 13.6 inches and in Fullerton, the nearest I could find to me, it's 13.9 inches. Again PER YEAR. Not per afternoon Rolling on the floor laughing

And the official rainfall is 4.98" for the season this year, which is over for all intents and purposes. It's going to be a long summer with lots of fires. Sad
