Natalie, this is for you! lol

I've had a few blooms from Florida plants, but this is in conditions that are very far from what would normally send up a scape even... so not the hybridizers' faults! This is my first year with plants from Florida and I'm trying to figure things out, like when I prefer them to ship to me way up here or if I should always cut all scapes off and at what point I can just let them grow, etc. I cut all scapes off my earliest order as it arrived early-mid April and I had to pot them up and move them indoors a lot. The first bloom came from the second delivery, which was my first order to plant out directly. I had high hopes leaving the scapes on, but they were dashed when the first bloom opened May 30th.

I definitely won't say what it was. lol

And this one is a bonus from the earlier order. I left one scape on to see how it improves from bloom to bloom.
FFO (well, almost) on this one in the morning May 31... looked like it had so much potential for a FFO...
Thumb of 2013-06-08/Anne/718a10

...but in the afternoon it rained before I could snap a photo of it open (sort of)... it wasn't looking too good before the rain anyway!

The next bloom June 2 was looking closer to how it should...
Thumb of 2013-06-08/Anne/f9b26d

And from the same scape, this opened yesterday, but the pic is from this morning.

Surely this will be ugly at first too, but I can't help but get excited looking at the contrast on the edge already.
Thumb of 2013-06-08/Anne/521791

Slowly getting there! It's going to be an exciting bloom season for me. I've grown daylilies for the last decade maybe, but just a few older varieties until last year when I added a handful of newer ones and made some crosses. This year I splurged and added something like 90... so it should be a fun year!

Could we please start a separate thread for the ugly blooms?

Springfield Clan truly is a luscious red!

I've always thought Darker Shade was a special bloom, and the photo here is grand.

Remedy is a knockout. I'm starting to see several by Jacques that draw my attention.

Rose F. Kennedy is such a distinctive bloom that I'm always drawn to it.

Please please please, someone start a new thread for the uglies, and no need to put names on them! Anne, you've made my day!!! You too Jan, but I thought your bloom was pretty!

Remedy is GORGEOUS! And I had a few others picked out that I was drooling over too. I've got to watch this thread closer!

Ladylovingdove said:Natalie, I'm afraid the hybridizers would get very upset if we posted ugly pictures of their intros. But I have a couple I would LIKE to post.

Dot, they don't have to be intros, and they don't need to have names put on them. I am the last person who would want to upset anyone, but the ugly pictures are so hilarious! We had an ugly seedling thread on here last year, and it was so much fun! I had my very first seedlings bloom last year, and they were UGLY!

Blooms here today had very saturated colors after cool temperatures and four rounds of rain yesterday and one this morning.

LILLIAN'S JINGER BRED - I can't believe I already have a bloom on this one. I got it from Michele's auction about two weeks ago, planted it, and it immediately put up this nice scape. M!ichele, you are a terrific grower, and Fred is one great hybridizer. I am so loving this one!

I agree Love the pics Debra. It's amazing to me how you have so much bloom already and you are probably only one zone warmer than I am. We are kind of stuck in a cold and dreary weather pattern here which probably doesn't help much.

I'm hoping WK gets better. I bought 2 fans, got an extra as a bonus and later got a fan as a gift. Planted all 4 fans near each other, so should have a nice clump in a year or two. Saratoga Springtime is the only other early one here that is blooming.

No, just the Lillian's Jinger Bred came from me. LJB is one of my favorite pinks and I only have 2 favorites; LJB and Leslie Renee. There are other nice pinks out there, but those 2 will be here for along time.

I agree with Natalie - I love the form - and think it is aptly named, but I would like to see a bolder color on it - perhaps redder ..... Whistling

By the way Natalie- I realized I didn't have enough oranges, and acquired a few the last couple of years. Hopefully they will all bloom well this year. A good saturated orange just seems to 'glow' ~Jan

I've been doing a little window shopping on this thread for oranges! Orange is my least favorite color, but I love orange daylilies all of a sudden! I'm trying to learn to like the red ones too. That's taking a little longer!
