I have Hercules, which I love, and I'm wondering if it can go in full sun? I had it planted in pretty much full shade at my other house. It survived, but didn't bloom, and didn't get any bigger after 3 years. I was reading up on it, and found several sites that said it can be in full sun to part shade. I'm wondering if maybe I just had it in too much shade? I'd like to plant it on the east side of my house where it may get some early morning sun, but shade the rest of the day. If it needs more sun, I can plant it on the north side of the house, but it will be in afternoon sun there, and that may be too much sun.

Any suggestions are welcome!

I have never had that one but if it similar to snow angel I would keep it to morning sun only. I think Springcolor might have it.

Thanks Bob. I know nothing about snow angel, so I don't know if they are similar or not. Did you mean in color, or what they prefer? No idea on that, either! I'm clueless!

So far it hasn't lived up to the Hercules name, so I'm hoping that a change in the area it's in will give it a boost. It's more like Tiny Tim now. I do love it though!

Natalie,
I do have that one and it is so much better than 'snow angel' in my opinion. It will take sun and your location sounds wonderful. I don't think afternoon sun would be good morning is best. Keep us posted! Welcome to the heuchera forum!! Welcome!

Bob, I just moved from Utah to Idaho, and left most of my plants behind. I think I only brought 5 or 6 of them with me. I'll post pictures once I get them in the ground. They look kind of sad in pots!

I have Hercules and have him planted where he gets part shade. If there is any sun at all that he gets, it is the morning sun.

Hercules has been a great plant for me. I recieved him some years ago in a trade and he just keeps on going. I have divided and traded him. I thought during the last couple of years, with the extreme heat we have had during the summer months, that I may have lost him - but was quite excited to see him coming back and flowering this year. From what I have heard about Snow Angel, she pretty much melts away over time. I have heard that from several different people. She used to be on my want list, but not anymore. For that variegated look, you will do so much better with Hercules.

I do think that an eastern exposure would work well. That would keep the harsh afternoon sun from really doing anything harmful to Hercules.

Thanks Carolyn! I appreciate the information, and your good opinion of the plant! I'm hoping that it's new home will be to its liking! It still isn't in the ground, but seems to be enjoying the pot it's in. It's even grown some, which it hasn't done since I got it. I love happy plants!

Do any of you grow Venus? I adore it and brought it with me. I had it in more sun than I had most others in, and it did okay, but not spectacular. I'm going to put it in the same bed with Hercules, and hopefully it will be spectacular!

I agree with Carolyn - my snow angel is getting smaller and smaller and my hercules is maintaining and growing -- I have been slowly moving mine into sunnier spots over the last few years -- they seem to like the change of venue! I agree

Thanks Bob. Mine has actually gotten smaller over the last couple of years, but I still like it. I'm giving it a second chance to wow me. A really do love it for the color, and I probably had it in a little too much sun. It always bloomed well, but the blooms aren't anything grand. I'm just crazy about the color. If it doesn't perform well in the next year or so, I may have to find a replacement for it.
