The House Wren Babies fledged! The little ones are now in the shrubs that are growing on Azalea Hill. And all sorts of fussing and scolding going on. Meantime Mr is sitting on the new nestbox singing away ignoring everything. I am wondering just who is taking care of all the kids?
Sounds like Mr. is singing, trying to attract a new Mrs. Poor mama if she is left to try to feed all the babies with help from that philandering dad! How many young ones fledged?

I went out there and one of the babies was flying and landed on my head! Ended up in my hand, kind of looked at me and took off again. So cute and so funny.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

I had a bird poop on my shirt the other day when I was pulling weeds beneath a tree. Ewwwww!
I was outside earlier potting up some cuttings and noticed a baby dove on the ground beneath a tree ... then another one appeared! I'm not sure if they are Mourning Doves or Ground Doves. They aren't flying so I'm not sure if they fell out of a nest or are just fledging. I didn't want to disturb them and got busy elsewhere in the yard and forgot about them. I came inside for a bit and then it began to pour down rain. A few minutes ago I remembered the little birds and went to take a look out the window and both babies were sitting there in the cypress mulch all hunched over and soaking wet! I would've thought they'd seek shelter beneath a nearby shrub but there the poor things were ... right out in the open in pouring rain! So ... I got my big umbrella and hung it over a trellis in a container planting to try to keep them dry. When I walked over they strutted back beneath a tree where there's a little shelter from the lower foliage. I sure hope mama and papa are feeding these little ones! I will keep watch and if I don't see signs of a parent feeding them I will put out a little seed ... but must be careful because of predators that could easily find them.

Rita, I'm thinking Mourning Doves too ... we have more of those than we do the Ground Doves which are smaller and a bit different in color. I just went out and don't see them so I'm sooo hoping they've flown off! I found a pile of Raccoon scat/poop in the corner of the house/area where the juvenile doves were hanging out and that wouldn't be good if the coons got to those babies.

Well, they haven't found them yet ... the babies were there earlier today and raccoons are nocturnal so the scat must have been from last night. Maybe the babies just left the nest this morning because today is the first time I noticed them and I'm in that part of the yard all the time. There's a juniper tree in that corner ... I haven't checked yet but I'm wondering if there's maybe a nest in that tree.
