Something wonderful happened, right out of the blue.
We give away surplus books in the summer. Two days ago, a mother and 12-year-old girl stopped in and took some books. The OG was chatting with them and happened to mention that we had kittens.
(I've been worried sick, because three of our colony of 6-8 feral cats gave birth a few weeks ago, and none of the rescue agencies are able to help: they're overwhelmed. We're looking at a serious rise in already rising food bills.)
Anyhow, they came to the back porch, looked at the kittens and picked out the two prettiest to adopt.
Great!
But the most wonderful part was yet to come. They have been canvassing their subdivision and found homes for all of the kittens!
I don't know what kind of homes they'll have, but they're getting a better chance than they out here.
Jen and Kinsey returned today to collect all 8. And gave us the name of a cut-price clinic for rescued cats within driving distance.
If we can trap them, we can get them vaccinated and neutered for $150 each. A lot more doable the $500 our regular vet charges.
The bereft mother cats don't feel grateful right now, but me stealing their offspring is a whole lot better than a ferret or something killing them, as happened to a litter last spring.
